High-Performance Quantum-Classical Computing
“Where?” and “When?” are quantum computing’s two biggest questions. Where in the application portfolio will quantum be an advantage and when will it happen? Despite continuing progress in low level quantum technologies, including the first error correct logical qubit, the problems of scale, integration, and industrialization are unresolved, over-looked and under-appreciated. Working across the quantum technology community, Hewlett Packard Labs has developed tools to bound the questions of “when” and “where” and demonstrate how to design and build the high-performance quantum-classical hybrid systems to realize quantum advantage.
Interactive Exploratory Data Analytics (EDA) on Petabytes with Python and Arkouda, Powered by Chapel
As data sets are growing well beyond the capabilities of individual machines, data scientists require tools that leverage existing Python expertise while enabling scalable analysis. Arkouda, a Python package designed for exploratory data analysis at scale, offers a solution. Data scientists can leverage familiar Jupyter notebooks running on their laptops to analyze massive datasets residing on cloud platforms, supercomputers, or other distributed machines. Arkouda is a generalized HPC framework for rapidly developing performant, scalable Python packages.

Amplify performance of HPC applications by extending programming models to use shared memory
Partitioned Global Address Space (PGAS) languages such as SHMEM and Chapel limit the size of the working dataset (that is, data being actively processed) by the amount of available memory in the compute nodes being used. We proposed a modified memory model for OpenSHMEM to enable access to asymmetric shared memory and demonstrated the benefits with example applications. We also enabled shared memory access from Chapel using Chapel’s distributed arrays. We are exploring the use of shared memory to store general multi-modal data within shared memory to further enable interactive analysis of the data with HPE’s Intelligent Data Store (IDS).
Direct liquid cooling: Effective today, essential tomorrow
HPE’s expertise in liquid cooling spans six decades of innovation. Today, we continue to lead the industry in preparing for the next generation of liquid cooling and infrastructure. We offer three liquid cooling options for select HPE systems:
- Closed-loop liquid cooling enhances air cooling inside the server and functions like a radiator, akin to a car’s cooling system.
- Direct liquid cooling improves power usage effectiveness (PUE) and cuts cooling expenses in a fully rack-contained and integrated liquid-cooled system. We offer fanless systems that are 100% liquid cooled and hybrid systems that are 70% liquid-cooled and 30% air-cooled.
- Liquid-to-air cooling solutions, extract heat from the compute system. Hot air is cooled by liquid and then returned to the server or data center, utilizing facility-chilled water that provides cold air where it is needed most in the rack.
HPC software to scale supercomputing system capabilities
The HPC software portfolio from HPE is optimized for HPE Cray Supercomputing infrastructure, offering customers a robust foundation to run diverse workloads. Benefits include the ability to build and run containerized applications, development tools to drive performance at scale, detailed monitoring of system health, and power management features to regulate consumption and costs.
High Performance Networking HPE Slingshot AIOPs Software
Every HPC and AI system is different, and every system has a community of people that work with it. Troubleshooting fabric and job performance issues often requires countless hours and manual operation. HPE Slingshot AIOPS Software benefits both system administrators and users who run jobs on the systems, significantly improving time to resolution by providing insights and analysis of network traffic and job performance.
