Overview

This learning path provides information and skills related to HPE Synergy implementation, configuration, administration, and management. The course starts with an overview of infrastructure, compute, storage, and fabric options to help you understand the specifics of a composable solution. The curriculum provides a baseline understanding for system administrators to set up and configure the infrastructure before introducing the HPE OneView appliance. Later courses provide the skills needed to manage the solution through common tasks.

    This learning path is ideal for system administrators, engineers, and consultants who install, manage, and monitor HPE Synergy solutions. It is also relevant to HPE ProLiant Compute and HPE BladeSystem customers who plan a move to composable infrastructure.

    There are no prerequisites for this learning path, but we recommend you have basic server, storage, and networking industry experience before taking this course.

    After completing this learning path, you should be able to:

    • Explain the concept of composable infrastructure, including its technologies, components, and benefits
    • Explore the functional architecture of the HPE Synergy environment, including management infrastructure (HPE Synergy Composer, Frame Link Modules), compute modules, interconnect modules, local storage systems, power, and cooling
    • Identify, correctly position, and cable the management and networking modules in a HPE Synergy frame
    • Understand how to access the HPE OneView management appliance to initiate hardware discovery, then perform initial tasks to set up hardware, including the HPE Synergy Composer
    • Navigate the HPE OneView dashboard; locate current information on firmware, server inventory, and generate basic reports; and perform firmware updates using the Smart Update Tool
    • Install the HPE OneView appliance to manage and maintain firmware, implement compute and networking configurations, monitor the data center, and respond to issues

Course 1: HPE Synergy Solution Overview

Description: This course presents an introduction to the HPE Synergy solution and prepares you for more advanced HPE Synergy training. Topics include a tour of the HPE Synergy system and its components, installation and configuration information, coverage of the management interfaces and firmware updates, and troubleshooting information.


Objectives: After completing this training, you should be able to:

  • Explain why the HPE Composable Infrastructure architecture is needed to support the enterprise of today and the future
  • Explain what the HPE Synergy solution is and how it supports the HPE Composable Infrastructure architecture
  • Identify and describe the components of the HPE Synergy solution
  • List and explain the technologies used in the HPE Synergy release
  • List the types of available options for the HPE Synergy solution
  • Explain how to install, set up, and configure the hardware and software in an HPE Synergy solution
  • Describe how to verify and troubleshoot an HPE Synergy solution installation
  • Describe the features of the management software used with an HPE Synergy solution
  • Update firmware and drivers in an HPE Synergy solution
  • Explain how to provision an operating system in an HPE Synergy system
  • Troubleshoot issues with an HPE Synergy solution

Course 2: HPE OneView Overview and Configuration for HPE Synergy

Description: This course covers the features and functions of HPE OneView in relation to the configuration and management of HPE Synergy solutions. You learn how to navigate the HPE OneView dashboard and use it to locate current information on firmware versions, view server inventory, and generate basic reports. You then perform initial tasks to set up hardware and configure HPE Synergy Composer.


Objectives: After completing this training, you should be able to:

  • Describe HPE OneView and its features
  • Locate current information on firmware, server inventory, and inventory
  • Generate basic reports
  • Navigate the HPE OneView for HPE Synergy appliance
  • Navigate the HPE Synergy frame logical configuration via HPE OneView
  • Perform initial tasks to set up hardware, configure HPE OneView
  • Perform firmware update with the integrated Smart Update Tool (iSUT)
  • Describe scripting and API options available in HPE OneView

Course 3: HPE Synergy Administration with HPE OneView

Description: This course provides instruction on HPE Synergy configuration, administration, management, troubleshooting, and maintenance. It covers day-to-day administration skills on HPE Synergy Composer, storage module, compute module, frame management, fabric connectivity, multi-frame domains, and server profile management. You also learn about HPE Global Dashboard features.


Objectives: After completing this training, you should be able to:

  • Introduce composable infrastructure (basic concepts) and HPE Synergy domains
  • Explore the functional architecture of the HPE Synergy environment, including management infrastructure (HPE Synergy Composer and Frame Link Modules), compute modules, interconnect modules, local storage systems, power, and cooling
  • Review the HPE Synergy portfolio and equipment capabilities
  • Explain the HPE Synergy master/satellite interconnects, topology, and cabling

Course 4: Using REST API with HPE OneView

Description: In this course, you learn how to work with the HPE OneView REST API. You create, edit, and remove resources with the REST API using different access methods (including Postman, cURL, and PowerShell). You see demonstrations of each topic and then you have the chance to practice what you’ve learned within a virtual lab environment.


Objectives: After completing this training, you should be able to:

  • Describe the basics of the REST API
  • Describe and use REST API requests—GET, POST, PUT/PATCH, DELETE
  • Use browser tools to sniff requests sent between your browser and HPE OneView
  • Use Postman for sending REST API requests to HPE OneView with hands-on labs
  • Use cURL for sending REST API requests to HPE OneView with hands-on labs
  • Use the PowerShell library for sending REST API requests to HPE OneView with hands-on labs
