Innovation
HPE is a global technology leader focused on developing intelligent solutions that allow customers to capture, analyze, and act upon data seamlessly from edge to cloud.
Our IP portfolio reflects the rich legacy of our predecessor, Hewlett-Packard Company, regarded as the founder of Silicon Valley, and at the same time is foundational to modern computing platforms.
Hewlett-Packard Company was founded in 1939 and has had a major influence on the global technology industry. You can get to know more about Hewlett-Packard Company’s legacy of innovation and culture, and learn about Hewlett Packard Labs, specifically how Labs is solving complex challenges and incorporating those advances in into our products.
HPE’s IP portfolio supports HPE’s wide-ranging products and industry-leading technology, and also comprehensively underlies our diverse technology transfer, licensing, sales, and collaboration relationships and initiatives. HPE is open to collaborations that mutually advance business, technology, branding, and open sourcing objectives.
Our team
Our IP team strives to be an innovation-driven team of worldwide professionals who support our customers to achieve business outcomes. The IP team has received many external accolades including awards from Managing IP, IAM, IP Stars, and World Trademark Review. In addition, the IP team has been recognized as a Legal Tech Trailblazer for consistent development of innovative tools such as a micro-rotation portal which provides team members diverse opportunities across the Legal department, and also a crowdsourced approach to patent decision-making by considering the voice of our R&D community.
Monetization
The IP Licensing team has established technology transfer, licensing, and sales programs involving HPE patents, trademarks, and copyrights. The technology transfer program is focused on encouraging the adoption and implementation of HPE innovations more quickly into the applicable marketplaces. The patent licensing program offers licenses to HPE’s technology on mutually beneficial terms. HPE also sells patents to qualified buyers, which is a common business practice for companies with large patent portfolios.
Open source
Collaboration is in our DNA. HPE is dedicated to enabling open-source technology innovation through programs, collaboration, and contribution as a key part of the HPE strategy with the broader open source community.
Defensive patent program
The threat of patent lawsuits from competitors can stifle entrepreneurship and innovation, especially for early stage and small-to-medium sized companies without a large, defensive patent portfolio. Hewlett Packard Enterprise has a long and storied history as a technology innovator, and has amassed a vast patent portfolio.
Our Defensive Patent Program can help HPE Technology Partners deter IP aggression and ward off patent battles. Technology partners in good standing may negotiate to purchase all right, title, and interest in select patents for legal defense purposes.
