HPE Spaceborne Computer to power high performance computing and AI on the Moon
HPE Spaceborne Computer-4, an advanced compute module built for space environments, plans to power artificial intelligence (AI) and the first high performance computing (HPC) benchmarks on the surface of the Moon as deployed on Astrolab's FLIP rover for an upcoming mission for the Moon Base program and will test the suitability of advanced computing for future missions and the emerging lunar economy.
HPE Spaceborne—A journey through time
Launched in August of 2017, the first Spaceborne Computer has since gone through numerous iterations and updates, first orbiting around Earth on the International Space Station, and now, powering AI on the Moon.
Solution components
The HPE Spaceborne Computer-2 will simulate computational loads during actual space travel via data intensive applications.
The following components serve as the foundation to simulate these loads.
HPE Edgeline Converged System
Delivering enterprise IT capabilities in a ruggedized system designed for the harsh operating environments found at the edge.
HPE ProLiant system
Deliver more consistent security with next-gen physical, virtual, and containerized firewalls managed in a unified experience.
HPE HPC solutions
Continuously collaborating, building, validating, and delivering secure, innovative, production-level HPC solutions with leading-edge technologies and services.
Past experiments
For 20 years, students have designed, built, launched, and operated their own experiments on the ISS doing such things as controlling robots, analyzing space imagery, communicating via radio from the ground to space and back, and conducting cutting-edge genetic research.
