What is Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)?
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) definition
"Infrastructure as a Service” (IAAS) refers to centrally managed hardware made available to users for rapid provisioning in a virtualized environment. The infrastructure includes compute resources, cloud storage, and networking capability. Users access these resources via a browser-based management console or by API. IaaS services automatically scale to meet demand, and customers pay only for the resources that they use.
IaaS may be hosted on your own infrastructure as a private cloud, on a third party’s dedicated infrastructure as a managed private cloud, or on a third party’s large-scale shared infrastructure as a public cloud.

Why Infrastructure as a Service?
Infrastructure as a Service requires no investment in hardware, and it eliminates ongoing maintenance costs because the provider hosts and maintains all system components. IaaS solutions deliver all the benefits of hosted solutions, including efficiency, lower costs, reduced IT footprint, reduced environmental impact, expanded availability, and more. It is well suited where demand is volatile, capital is limited, or the organization is growing rapidly and needs to continually scale.
IaaS can also be provided from private cloud with similar benefits, including efficiencies of scale, centralized management and compliance, standardization of resources, and more.
-
How is IaaS different from PaaS and SaaS?
IaaS is the underlying compute environment, while PaaS adds an operating system that allows for the automation of many tasks associated with developing, deploying, and running apps. SaaS offerings are cloud-based apps built for end users.
