Ransomware Recovery

What is Ransomware Recovery?

Ransomware recovery is the process of returning your business back to operations after a ransomware attack. Recovery involves not only clearing your network of the threat, but also setting up additional security to ensure greater protection going forward.

How long does it take to recover from a ransomware attack?

Recovering from a ransomware attack can take as long as 6 weeks, but the process can be sped up considerably with some pre-planning and enhanced security measures, namely I the form of a Disaster Recovery (DR) plan.

Ransomware prevention consists of cyber security defenses, like antivirus software, network protection, identity management, vulnerability identification and patching, and ongoing security oversight to detect attacks. Many ransomware attacks take place slowly and methodically, so identifying anomalies in network behavior or files is critical.

Despite ransomware prevention efforts to mitigate risk, the industry belief is that it’s not if a business will experience ransomware attack, but when. In the unfortunate event that it happens, a disaster recovery solution is the first step in getting networks and services back up and running.

Two key measurements in the DR plan are Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO). RTO is the amount of allowable downtime after a ransomware attack. In an optimized environment, this is normally several hours, but no more. RPO is the most recent point in time in which a known, good copy of the network data is available to recover a system.

HPE and ransomware recovery

HPE GreenLake represents the most advanced enterprise networking ecosystem available. While attacks on your business are inevitable, recovery is not. Getting back up and running quickly is now more critical than ever, and HPE's continuous data protection capabilities deliver always-on replication instead of periodic snapshots. You can "rewind" from incidents within a window of seconds, and our built-in encryption capabilities provide confidence that your backup data is protected no matter where you place it.

Additionally, you can leverage industry-leading ransomware protection, disaster recovery, and data protection as a service for any app, any cloud, and any recovery SLA with Zerto. Whether from cyber-attack, natural disaster, human error, or site failure, Zerto, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, delivers journal-based continuous data protection and unrivaled recovery for your virtualized and containerized apps and data from edge to cloud. Even better, Zerto’s unified, scalable, and automated data management makes workload and data mobility across clouds a snap.

With the ability to rapidly recover to a point just seconds before an attack, you no longer need to fear being held hostage by rising ransomware threats. Zerto enables fast app and data recovery with real-time protection, down-to-the-second granularity, and the flexibility to recover only what you need to resume operations.

Seamlessly deploy and scale disaster recovery protection as a service and from edge to cloud — the same technology that powers DRaaS for over 350 managed service providers. With the lowest recovery point objectives (RPOs) and fastest recovery time objectives (RTOs) in the industry, you get near zero data loss and application downtime.
