Object Storage

What is Object Storage?

Object storage is a type of data storage that efficiently stores data as objects with associated meta data and unique identifiers.

Object Storage Definition

Ideal for the retention of massive volumes of data that must be accessed, but not edited, object storage refers to a form of data storage where files are stored as objects with associated meta data and unique identifiers that enable them to be accessed on a network. Common types of data stored as objects can include unstructured data such as songs, photos and video clips, medical images or back up files. Object storage is increasingly being used for cloud-native applications such as analytic processing, AI and machine learning.

Why object storage?

Object storage has traditionally been the best solution for storing mass amounts of data. It is virtually endlessly scalable, which is good news in a world where the rate of data being generated is increasing exponentially. Modern cloud native applications using micro services are now also using object storage as their persistent data layer.
