The CS-Storm server can weigh up to 88 lb (40 kg). A server lift is required to safely remove a server from the rack.
A 2U blank panel must be available (Cray part number 101038201 or AFCO part number AS-PBP-TL-24-2RU) to fill the empty space when the node is removed from the rack to maintain airflow and avoid overheating other components in the rack. The plastic turn-lock fasteners must be removed from the blank panel to secure the blank panel using screws removed from the server.
A Cray Service Video is available that shows how to assemble and use the lift to remove and install a CS-Storm server.
Use the ACE® or IPMI commands to power down the server.
Disconnect the power cables from the rear of the server.
Disconnect all Ethernet, InfiniBand (IB), or other I/O cables from the rear of the server.
Remove the 2 screws that secure the server to the front of the rack.
Warning:
Serious injury or equipment damage.
CS-Storm servers are not supported by sliding rails. Do not remove server more than 3 inches out of the rack.
Grasp the server handles and carefully pull the server out approximately 2 inches from the cabinet.

Position the lift in front of the rack and set the brake.
Optional: If removing a server near the top of the rack, release the two pins that secure the ladder to the rack and extend the ladder.
Rotate the winch handle to adjust the carriage so the platform is flush with the bottom of the server.
Check the alignment of the lift platform with the server. If necessary, release the brake and reposition the lift.
If the server is located near the top of the rack, climb the ladder to reach the server.
Grasp the server handles and carefully slide the server out of the rack and onto the lift platform.
Warning:
Serious injury or equipment damage.
Tip-over hazard. CS-Storm servers can weigh up to 88 lb (40kg). Always adjust the height of the platform to waist-level and center the server on the platform before moving the lift. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or equipment damage.
CAUTION:
Damage to equipment.
Do not allow the front panel of the server to come in contact with the lift platform. Failure to do so can damage the front panel.

Rotate the winch to adjust the height of the platform to waist-level.
Optional: If necessary, return the ladder to the stowed position and secure the snap pins to lock the ladder in place.
Release the brake, and slowly move the lift away from the rack. Do not allow the lift to come into contact with other objects.
Important: Quickly, install a 2U blank panel in the opening and secure the panel to the rack. If necessary, remove the plastic fasteners so that screws can be used to secure the 2U filler panel to the rack. Failure to do so can disrupt airflow and overheat other components in the rack.
Position the lift near the ESD-safe work surface and rotate the winch handle to adjust the platform to the height of the work surface.
Carefully slide the server off the lift and onto the work surface.
