  • Guided assembly: Augmented reality-based instructions help workers master multiple product configurations and assemblies to reduce defects
  • Maintenance and repair: “See what I see” technologies put line workers directly in touch with remote experts for faster diagnosis and resolution of equipment issues
  • Video analytics: Sophisticated video analytics drive speed and accuracy in the quality assurance process
  • Condition monitoring and predictive maintenance:  Monitor and predict maintenance issues before they occur to reduce unplanned downtime
  • Digital twin: Digitalize plant floor asset performance and processes to monitor and adjust production
Connect workers with data and insights

For machine assets and products, connectivity has long driven improvements in efficiency, performance, and productivity. Recent technology developments provide greater capabilities to monitor and control plant floor equipment, products, and even the production processes themselves, providing new data sources from a variety of operations areas.

Drive asset performance with digitization

Advancements in IT and lower device costs have allowed manufacturing companies to aggregate plant floor asset data— assembly-line equipment, tools, and operational systems involved in the manufacturing process — into a common dashboard for improved visibility into plant floor operations and equipment performance.

Use video for quality assurance

Over the past five years, the Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing have lowered the costs of applying vision to production processes and also improved the speed, data accessibility, and information processing of industrial vision systems.

Gain agility and resilience with automation

The core of most manufacturing operations is process automation. For the past 40 years, automation has been mostly isolated in individual processes, equipment, or production assets. A new automation strategy, based on converged edge computing, is the linchpin for realizing adaptive, flexible automation.

CuBE creates a smarter, more productive plant with IIoT

To expand its sustainable packaging business, CuBE built an IIoT platform in partnership with HPE and ecosystem partners PTC, PCM and Callisto. Gathering data from the injection molding plant’s edge, CuBE gains insights to streamline operations.

Challenge

With rising demand for its containers, CuBE had to navigate adding new machines, boosting throughput and managing risk. To do so, the company needed to gain the intelligence, tools and visibility to optimise operations ‒ without introducing risk or slowing the pace of growth.

Solution

CuBE assembled HPE and partners PCM, PTC and Callisto to bring intelligence to its plant. HPE Synergy, which collects and analyses 3-400 GB of data daily, and Aruba wireless network solutions play a key role in the company’s new IIoT platform.

“Business growth can run into production constraints ‒ and adding equipment is capital intensive and time-consuming.”

Len Chopin, President, CuBE Packaging Solutions

Result

With data and analytics, OT and IT integration, CuBE is well-positioned to maximise its value to customers and the planet. With its boosted capacity, more grocers, restaurateurs and other food industry providers will have access to CuBE’s premium re-usable and recyclable packaging.
