System statistics categories and metrics, including capacity pie chart

The Top System Statistics view consolidates significant system information and data by category. These statistics provide an at-a-glance view into file system and metadata performance, system capacity and storage, and power metrics of the cluster.

Figure: Dashboard - Top System Statistics View

Performance metrics are shown as read and write rates, presented as a bytes per second (B/s) value (KB/s, MB/s, GB/s or TB/s). System capacity is presented as a bytes value (KB, MB, GB, TB, or PB). Typically, file system capacity is in TB or PB.

System statistics are updated regularly, based on data from the system monitoring utility. Various refresh rates are available (for example, 10 seconds, 60 seconds, or 5 minutes). If there is an interruption in data received from the monitoring utility, then a dash (–) displays for the affected statistics. When the monitoring data resumes, the dashes are updated with regular statistics.

Every 10 seconds, these statistics are updated:
  • Current read
  • Current write
  • Capacity available
  • Capacity in use
  • Current operations
Every 60 seconds, these statistics are updated:
  • Peak read
  • Peak write
  • Number of OSTs in use
  • Number of disks in use
Every five (5) minutes, this statistic is updated:
  • Current cluster usage

System Statistics Categories and Metrics

The Top System Statistics view lists the following categories and metrics:
FILE SYSTEM
Peak readPeak speed for a read operation performed in the last 24 hours (KB/s, MB/s, GB/s or TB/s)
Current readSpeed of the current read operation (KB/s, MB/s, GB/s or TB/s)
Peak writePeak speed for a write operation performed in the last 24 hours (KB/s, MB/s, GB/s or TB/s)
Current writeSpeed of the current write operation (KB/s, MB/s, GB/s or TB/s)
METADATA
Current OperationsNumber of operations currently running (Op/s)
STORAGE
Number of OSTs in useNumber of OSTs currently online
Number of disks in useNumber of disks currently online
Capacity in useSystem capacity currently in use (in GB)
Capacity availableSystem capacity currently available (in TB)
POWER
Current cluster usageStorage-based power currently in use (in W)

The Number of disks in use statistic only counts disks in the OK state (working normally). Disks in the Problems Found state are not included in this count. This means that the disk quantity shown as the Number of disks in use statistic may be less than the total number of disks shown in the Quantity column of the Inventory view.

  • If a disk is in the OK state, it is counted in both the Number of disks in use statistic and in the Quantity column of the Inventory view.
  • If a disk is in the Problems Found state, it is not counted in the Number of disks in use statistic, but is counted in the Quantity column of the Inventory view.
  • If a disk is not installed (in a slot), it is not counted in either the Number of disks in use statistic or the Quantity column of the Inventory view.

Capacity Pie Chart

To enhance the usability of the system capacity statistics, the Capacity Available and Capacity in Use values are presented in a pie chart. Dark blue represents free capacity and lighter blue represents the capacity in use. The pie chart enables system administrators to assess storage capacity at a glance. It reflects the percentage of storage in use and percentage of available system storage. The pie chart updates dynamically as data in the system statistics table is refreshed.

The Dashboard tab uses show/hide behavior. If the dashboard browser window is smaller than 1200 pixels in width, then the pie chart is hidden. To display the pie chart, enlarge the browser window. The show/hide behavior is automatic; no browser reload is necessary.
