Next Gen Sequencing (NGS) refers to new, faster ways to sequence DNA and RNA that effectively revolutionise genomics and molecular biology.
NGS, also called "high-throughput sequencing," is a term for a collection of genetic sequencing techniques that improve upon the original Sanger sequencing process. Examples include Illumina (Solexa) sequencing, Roche 454 sequencing, Ion torrent: Proton / PGM sequencing, and SOLiD sequencing. These modes of DNA and RNA sequencing use massively parallel processes to work faster and more cost effectively than the Sanger method.
In addition to reducing the costs and timeframe for DNA and RNA sequencing, Next Gen Sequencing also makes it possible to conduct sequencing with smaller samples. The time and effort required to prepare samples for sequencing is also reduced compared with Sanger sequencing.
NGS requires significant compute, storage and data analytics capabilities. We deliver on all three with the HPE Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) solution. Purpose-built on our High Performance Computing (HPC) platform, it offers a unified compute and storage solution for NGS workflows. Developed based on our proven domain expertise, it gives you the performance, scalability, and predictable throughput you need to support data-intensive genomics.
