Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) today announced entertainment company Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has selected HPE to deliver a flexible and scalable IT infrastructure and service model that combines the benefits of its existing on-premises data centre with the agility of the cloud. By implementing the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform, SCA can now deliver a seamless experience that supports customer audio consumption and digital advertising capabilities, ultimately leading to greater revenue opportunities.
SCA is Australia’s biggest entertainment company with 99 radio stations across 64 markets around Australia, 105 TV signals and an audio app LiSTNR which allows both live and on-demand listening. These channels collectively allow SCA to reach over 95 per cent of the Australian population.
After working with HPE for over two decades across all areas of the business, SCA implemented HPE GreenLake to architect a new technical storage and infrastructure solution aligned with its new corporate business strategy.
SCA’s pivotal requirement for handling real-time workloads has enabled them to migrate traditional broadcast capabilities into a virtualised environment, encompassing media management and processing, ensuring that the delivery of content, whether it be live or on-demand, is seamless, reliable, and of optimal quality. The virtualised environment not only enhances operational efficiency but also ensures robust, scalable, and flexible media delivery capabilities, fostering an unparalleled user experience across SCA's platforms.
“The HPE GreenLake implementation stemmed from our need to deliver a seamless listening experience across every listening platform. We have a unique business model where we needed both on-premises data storage and scalable cloud infrastructure to reach the largest number of people across Australia.”
“The HPE GreenLake implementation stemmed from our need to deliver a seamless listening experience across every listening platform,” said Stephen Haddad, Chief Technology Officer, SCA.
“We have a unique business model whereby we needed to retain our on-premises data storage capability to facilitate broadcast listening, but also required a solution that can manage infrastructure at scale, effectively. Our approach to technology is to work in a reliable and simplified environment, offering the best personalised audio experience, so that we can reach the largest number of people across the country.”
Over the last few years, SCA has embarked on a rapid period of growth after launching LiSTNR in 2020, considered to be Australia’s number one commercial podcast network and the country’s fastest growing audio app. SCA therefore requires the scalability facilitated by HPE GreenLake due to the large amount of data stored – from sensitive user profile information and user behaviour data, to broadcast and podcast content.
“We’re proud to have delivered a technology solution that has successfully supported SCA’s business objectives and growth trajectory, said Chris Weber, Vice President and Managing Director, South Pacific, Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
HPE and SCA worked with AC3 who supported SCA staff in deeply technical areas by providing expertise and training to support the delivery of the GreenLake solution.
"We’ve been working in partnership with both businesses for many years, focused on implementing world class technology solutions that deliver real business outcomes, and this is another great example of that,” said Simon Xistouris, CEO, AC3. “We’re proud to have played a role in implementing the HPE GreenLake solution and enabling the LiSTNR app to be so successful.”
