Expanded partnership will allow HPE telco servers to be available to Nokia Mobile Networks customers globally
BARCELONA, Spain – February 26, 2023 – Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) and Nokia today announced the expansion of their existing partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly offer an open and competitive Cloud RAN solution to Communication Service Providers (CSPs) and enterprises worldwide.
The expanded partnership will allow HPE telco servers to be available to Nokia Mobile Networks customers globally when Cloud RAN is being deployed in the CSP network. The partnership will focus on the integration, interoperability testing, and validation of a Nokia product solution, combining Nokia 5G Cloud RAN software, the Nokia In-Line Layer 1 accelerator card, the Nokia Cloud RAN SmartNIC, and the HPE ProLiant DL110 platform. Moving forward, the Cloud RAN technology will co-exist with purpose-built RAN technology in the network. The In-Line Layer 1 hardware acceleration enables feature and performance consistency with purpose-built RAN, higher capacity and connectivity, lower comparable TCO and ease of integration. Additionally, it provides an energy-efficient solution with an optimal capacity/power ratio for the demanding L1 processing.
HPE and Nokia have achieved an end-to-end Layer 3 data call running Nokia 5G Cloud RAN software with the Nokia Layer 1 acceleration, all on the HPE ProLiant DL110 platform. Together the companies plan to integrate Nokia’s Cloud RAN SmartNIC Layer 1 acceleration card with HPE’s trusted telco infrastructure portfolio to provide a seamless experience for service providers. The high density of the HPE ProLiant DL110 Telco server will support up to three of the Nokia accelerator cards all in a short depth 1U platform. The planned thermal performance testing and NEBS Level 3 certification will ensure the solution is carrier-grade and meets the needs of CSP customers.
Both HPE and Nokia are committed to delivering solutions that enable the full potential of 5G by delivering a high performing, competitive, and cost-effective open Cloud RAN solution to market in order to support the growing demand for 5G services.
“The combination of our technology and expertise creates more compelling and integrated solutions that accelerate the adoption of open technologies and bring innovative solutions to the market faster. By collaborating with our best-in-class partners we can deliver competitive advantage to organizations embracing Cloud RAN,” said Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia.
“By combining our strengths, we are able to offer a comprehensive and robust Cloud RAN solution to CSPs that drives efficiency, innovation, openness, and scale. We’re excited to work with Nokia to bring this to operators and enterprises who are embracing Cloud RAN technology,” said Phil Cutrone, SVP and GM, Service Providers, OEM, and Telco at HPE.
This joint Cloud RAN initiative is the latest example of Nokia and HPE’s ongoing commitment to driving innovation and delivering value to customers.
Both Nokia and HPE will showcase the collaboration at MWC 2023 in Barcelona. Please stop by the HPE Booth in Hall 3, stand 3N10 and Nokia Booth in Hall 3, stand 3A20.
The integrated HPE and Nokia solution will be available worldwide in Q4 calendar year 2023.
