HPE Completes Acquisition of SimpliVity

By Ric Lewis

Last month, HPE announced plans to acquire SimpliVity, a leading provider of software-defined, hyperconverged infrastructure. Today, I’m thrilled to announce that the deal has closed, which gives both companies the official green light to begin integration plans.

There are many things about this acquisition that provide real customer value, but the things I’m most excited about are the strength of the people joining HPE and the roadmap that we will deliver for customers as a combined company.

By bringing together HPE’s best-in-class infrastructure, automation and cloud management software with SimpliVity’s industry-leading software-defined data management platform, we will deliver the best and most comprehensive hyperconverged offering to the market.

Adding SimpliVity’s innovative technology to our hyperconverged portfolio provides significant additional benefits, including:

  • Built-in enterprise data protection and resiliency to simplify backup and quickly restore operations
  • Enterprise storage utilization and virtual machine (VM) efficiency to control costs and performance
  • Always-on compression and deduplication
  • Policy-based VM-centric management to simplify operations and enable data mobility, making development teams and end users more productive
  • The addition of disaster recovery to our existing hyperconverged use cases -- VM vending, VDI, and Enterprise ROBO/LoB

These benefits build off what we already provide to our customers, using the combination of HPE Synergy and HPE 3PAR All-Flash Storage within our composable infrastructure. Together, these solutions, along with our recent acquisition of Cloud Cruiser, will continue to accelerate our ability to deliver unrivaled Hybrid IT solutions to our customers and partners around the world.

For SimpliVity customers and partners, there will be no immediate changes.

In the near future, we will bring our technologies together in a powerful way. To start, HPE will offer the SimpliVity OmniStack software qualified for ProLiant DL380 servers. Customers may order this new offering today with a targeted delivery date in May.

If you are a current SimpliVity customer or partner, current offering availability will not be disrupted or changed.  We will work with you to migrate to our new offerings at your own pace.  For current HPE customers and partners, we will continue to offer our existing hyperconverged products, the Hyper Converged 380 and the Hyper Converged 250 and provide a pathway to the SimpliVity based-offerings.

In the second half of 2017, we plan to bring the best of HPE and SimpliVity together, providing customers   game-changing innovations like “workspace” controls, which provide business leaders and developers with simple self-service portals to compose virtualized and containerized resources and enhanced business insight, including predictive analytics. This will give IT managers the tools they need to increase resource utilization and proactively respond to needs for new resources.

I will continue to share our progress as we finalize details on our combined roadmap, ensuring future changes are clearly communicated and seamlessly managed for HPE and SimpliVity customers.

I’m looking forward to this new chapter. Together, HPE and Simplivity have an exciting roadmap and future together with big benefits to our customers and partners.
