Korea’s largest logistics company chose hyperconverged infrastructure from HPE to improve performance, reduce operating costs and secure disaster recovery systems

Seoul, May 26, 2020 - Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) today announced that CJ Logistics, Korea’s largest logistics company, has transformed its logistics and delivery services by deploying a private cloud on HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure. CJ Logistics is leveraging software defined compute, storage and networking from HPE to reduce operating costs, improve performance and streamline hardware resources for Korea’s largest logistics IT system.

CJ Group is one of Korea’s most diversified businesses, operating in the transport, retail, media and food sectors. Founded in 1930, CJ Logistics, one of the biggest subsidiaries of CJ Group, needed to modernize its IT infrastructure to support its aim of becoming a global leader in logistics. With CJ Logistics aiming to make the most effective IT systems and cloud friendly environments, the company found itself hampered by its outdated and expensive legacy IT estate built on Unix servers and SAN Storage.

CJ Logistics turned to HPE to transform its logistics IT environment into a private cloud with HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure. The HPE SimpliVity solution provides the foundation for CJ Logistics’ software defined data center (SDDC) with a technology structure and convenient management system that enables the legacy environment to be expanded and integrated with multiple private and public clouds. The new system has significantly improved the reliability and performance of services for CJ Logistics’ customers while streamlining hardware resources and reducing operating costs.

"The introduction of HPE SimpliVity HCI has laid the path for the SDDC from the existing Unix-based IT environment,” said Kim Young-nam, leader of CJ Logistics' information strategy team. “It is a great pleasure to be able to modernize the IT infrastructure system for logistics and delivery, which is currently on the rise, under cooperation with HPE.”

The built-in backup and disaster recovery (DR) capabilities of HPE SimpliVity have also been a game changer for CJ Logistics. This functionality of the HPE SimpliVity solution has enabled the company to minimize costs by removing the need for additional software licenses. HPE SimpliVity’s built-in compression card enables automatic deduplication and compression without affecting system performance and at no extra cost, resulting in the simplified management of both private cloud and DR systems.

"The modern logistics industry is built on ‘just-in-time’ operations that can only be delivered with high performance and streamlined IT systems that form the backbone of a successful logistics operation – there is no room for errors,” said Choi Jang-wook, Enterprise Account Manager, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Korea. “HPE is proud to help CJ Logistics stay ahead of the competition in Korea and support their global expansion. HPE SimpliVity is one of the best platforms for building a private cloud and now equipped with software defined infrastructure, CJ Logistics is well positioned to ensure the best possible services delivery to its customers.”

HPE was able to transform the entire legacy IT estate in just six months, with the new private cloud going live in April 2020 together with the new backup and DR systems.
