Centra Networks boosts customers data protection and performance efficiency with HPE SimpliVity

July 19, 2017 • News Advisory

Sydney, Australia, 19 July 2017 - Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) today announced that service provider Centra Networks has selected the HPE SimpliVity 380 hyperconverged solution to streamline its corporate back-office and client-side systems, maximise customer outcomes and minimise operational costs while improving performance and data protection outcomes.

Brisbane-based Centra Networks is a service provider that specialises in managed IT services, cloud & internet services, solutions and support. With an increasingly competitive and crowded cloud and service provider marketplace, it needed to continue to deliver reliable, secure, predictable and cost efficient services to its hosted and cloud customers.

As the company was expanding its customer portfolio, Centra Networks found it increasingly difficult to manage multiple storage, server and software vendors within its growing infrastructure stack. In order to decrease operational risks, and improve data protection and performance for clients, Centra Networks made the decision to invest in a flexible, scalable and future-proof cloud platform that would deliver better results to its clients as their data and compute requirements grow.

Matthew Militano, CEO and Director, Centra Networks, said: "The challenge was to find a highly scalable, high performing platform that allowed us to grow our capabilities around ever increasing data processing and protection needs, while also being cost effective. HPE SimpliVity was the best solution to deliver quick speed of deployment and ultimate control over all facets of our clients workloads. HPE addressed our need to streamline operations based on a small and scalable footprint, grow our cloud capabilities and enabled us to develop a business plan that helped us compete with more dominant players for new business opportunities with a differentiated offering. Our increased agility has helped us better mitigate risk while protecting customers business critical data through both local and geo-diverse replication, all housed within Australia for customers with data sovereignty needs."

Centra Networks had four racks of legacy infrastructure across two data centres in Brisbane and Sydney that were limiting agility. HPE collapsed and converged these into four HPE SimpliVity nodes across both data centres. The solution included compute, storage, storage networking, local and remote backup and recovery, as well as VM-centric management.

As a result, Centra Networks expects to reduce operational overhead by 66 percent and anticipates a ROI period of less than six months with better allocated cash flow. The modular architecture of the single platform solution vastly simplifies scaling for future growth reduces downtime from hours to seconds. Business profitability is also expected to increase based on the HPE SimpliVity Data Virtualization platform, with the new solution already generating interest and excitement from customers.

HPE SimpliVity 380's automated disaster recovery also addresses customer concerns around data security, and provides a system that minimizes business impact in the wake of increased ransomware attacks globally. The solution enables the better protection of valuable data, and ensures customers can get back up and running in seconds rather than hours should an attack occur.

Raj Thakur, General Manager, Data Centre & Hybrid Cloud Group, HPE South Pacific, said: "Our work with a service provider like Centra Networks is a great example of how HPEs hyperconverged solutions create a scalable platform that delivers faster responses to changing customer demands, improves performance and resilience while reducing costs."
