In this article
  • Helping our customers advance their sustainable IT initiatives is a key focus across the company
  • By aligning IT plans with sustainability goals, you can drive efficiency, reduce overprovisioning, and minimize e-waste

At HPE, we believe in creating sustainable and responsible IT solutions that meet the technology demands of the future. Helping our customers advance their sustainable IT initiatives is a key focus across the company, but Earth Day provides an opportunity for us to share insights about how customers can leverage technology and services to help reduce the environmental impacts of their IT. On April 18th, we engaged in a deep discussion about technology and sustainability in our annual Earth Month webcast.  We brought together our top sustainable IT experts to discuss the most important topics to help you:

  • Accelerate your digital transformation, sustainably
  • Address AI and sustainability challenges
  • Navigate sustainable IT regulations
  • Create smarter IT lifecycles and leverage the circular economy

It’s becoming clear to more enterprises that they can no longer afford to put sustainability on the back burner and still remain competitive

For those who missed it, you can watch the replay of the webcast. Here are three of the most inspiring takeaways from the event.

1.       Sustainability as a catalyst. The organizations most likely to succeed are the ones that understand that sustainability is an exercise in value creation. Leading organizations recognize sustainability as the catalyst to stay competitive in today’s market and are keen to take a deeper look at their carbon emissions across every area of their business. They realize a more sustainable business is attainable with the right solutions in place. That’s where we come in — to help them realize the full potential of sustainable IT.

This trend has been supercharged by the explosion of AI. It’s becoming clear to more enterprises that they can no longer afford to put sustainability on the back burner and still remain competitive. In a resource-constrained world, there has to be a plan to unlock the potential of this technology while keeping sustainability in mind.

2.       Sustainability is everyone’s business. Sustainability is no longer the sole responsibility of the sustainability team. It is being integrated into business strategy from the top down and throughout every part of the organization. This is how companies can create impactful change. CIOs can champion AI adoption while prioritizing sustainability. By making informed choices and integrating sustainability into their digital strategies, they can drive positive change for their organizations while managing environmental impact.

3.       Smarter IT Lifecycles. We need to better understand the trade-offs of tech refresh cycles, both in terms of costs and carbon. Five years ago, HPE was the first in the IT industry to provide Circular Economy Reports to customers, and over the last three years, HPE Financial Services (HPEFS) has infused $1.1 billion back to customers from upcycling and migration programs. We also processed 4.2 million assets in financial year 2023 across a combination of HPE’s two Technology Renewal Centers and our global network of trusted partners. By aligning IT plans with sustainability goals, you can drive efficiency, reduce overprovisioning, and minimize e-waste.

The work we do is not only transforming our own business, it’s helping our customers to advance their own sustainability missions

The work we do is not only transforming our own business, it’s helping our customers to advance their own sustainability missions. By aligning their technology strategies with sustainability initiatives, organizations are growing stronger and more nimble, meaning they can better accelerate data-first modernization strategies. There’s a clear business case for this: companies that link digital and sustainable transformation are more likely to be among the strongest-performing businesses in the future than those that do not.

Technology and sustainable innovation are the best ways that we can create a positive impact.  As a global technology vendor in today’s digital-first economy, HPE is positioned to help organizations with the expertise and solutions to reduce the footprint of IT while expanding the positive transformative impacts that technology can deliver. Over decades, we have focused on the environmental impacts of our solutions and are building one of the most innovative sustainable IT portfolios. It’s something the entire company is focused on, in every business unit, because organizations are demanding partners, solutions and expertise to drive toward their own ambitious sustainable tech transformations.
