During the annual World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, a new initiative, called AI House Davos, was introduced to provide a forum that unites policymakers, academics, and industry leaders to discuss, pose questions, and offer solutions for AI and its potential impact on solving global challenges. 

AI House Davos was housed in a building on the main promenade of Davos, at the heart of the World Economic Forum annual event, welcoming ongoing buzz of thousands of attendees throughout the week.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), co-initiated AI House Davos along with Merantix, ETH AI Center, Swisscom, the University of Tokyo Institute for AI and Beyond, and G42 and led sessions as part of a comprehensive week-long agenda.

HPE drives AI dialogue in multiple sessions at AI House Davos 

HPE led the following sessions that focus on the impact of AI on advancing humanity, and the ongoing dialogue and alignment required across private and public sectors to fuel AI innovation, while making it accessible, sustainable, and responsible, for creating an equitable experience for people globally:
 

  • Solving for humanity with AI. In this session, which features Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice, CEO for Good Tech Advisory Kay Firth-Butterfield, and COO of Juniper Networks Manoj Leelanivas, speakers discussed lowering the technology barrier of entry and closing the divide to innovate for AI. They explore redefining the AI data center to address sustainability, and tools and awareness that will lead to creating safe, ethical, and trustworthy AI-driven experiences for the greater good.   • Solving the world’s scientific challenges with AI. In this session, leaders from the European Commission, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Swiss National Supercomputing Centre joined HPE to discuss how through the power of public-private partnerships, co-investment, and co-development of accessible and open technologies, AI will drive breakthrough scientific discoveries for more researchers worldwide.   • Modern Slavery in the Age of AI. In this session, speakers including former UK Prime Minister Teresa May and Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, discuss the power of building a robust cross-sector community of senior global leaders to tackle modern slavery in the era of AI. The session touches on how a robust, aligned collaboration can elevate the issue on the agenda of corporate boards, executive committees, and governments to address broader change. Watch here.

  • There isn’t enough sand: The economic realities of scaling AI. In this talk, Evan Sparks, vice president of AI Solutions and Supercomputing Cloud at HPE, warns of an AI monoculture if compares today’s stage of AI to the early days of aviation more than a century ago. He reinforces the critical need to lower the barrier of entry for technologies required to create AI to broaden ecosystem innovation that can benefit more people as we have seen with the aviation industry.   • Detecting fragility and engineering robustness in AI. In this session, Kirk Bresniker, chief architect for Hewlett Packard Labs at HPE, discusses the importance of creating reliable models to realize the impact of AI and reduce risk. To address this, the robustness of models should be engineered to build in quality testing and include safeguards to maintain functionality, and minimize misuse and the impact of failure. Watch here

  • Reimagining your technology strategy for sustainable, responsible, and innovative AI. In a session co-led by Crusoe, leaders with Crusoe, Rescale, and Writer joined HPE to discuss how AI is currently transforming productivity and automating workflows across industries. As technology leaders, the panelists also underscored how the industry needs to align on energy-efficient solutions to minimize impact environmental impact and ensure responsible development and deployment of AI.
