Mottram and team to accelerate customer edge-to-cloud transformations

At HPE, our Intelligent Edge business has long been an area where we showcase clear differentiation in the market. The acquisition of Aruba in 2015 uniquely positioned us to deliver innovative solutions that would address the industry shift to a mobile-first world and capitalize on a strategic, high-growth business.

As we eclipse the halfway point of 2021, it has never been clearer—the enterprise of the future is edge-centric, cloud-enabled, and data driven. Accelerating digital transformation is a strategic imperative, requiring seamless, secure connectivity, and our Intelligent Edge business has continued to deliver in incredible ways for our customers. And with Aruba’s mobile-first, cloud-first approach—a trend we expect to continue as a major growth driver for HPE—we are well positioned to capitalize on this opportunity.

Our Intelligent Edge business has doubled down on its investments at the Edge, including introducing software capabilities like ClearPass security, cloud-native Aruba Central, and our Aruba Edge Services Platform. More recently, we introduced a new class of cloud-native and fully automated data center switching products, which accelerate the delivery of workload optimized solutions for our HPE GreenLake Cloud Services offerings. And our acquisition of Silver Peak has reinforced our ability to capture the high-growth SD-WAN market opportunity.

It’s against that backdrop and with mixed emotions I announce Keerti Melkote is retiring from HPE. After joining the company as part of our acquisition of Aruba, Keerti has been instrumental in guiding the business to $3B. His leadership, deep industry knowledge, and technical expertise has enabled the Intelligent Edge business to flourish, introducing true industry-changing solutions, accelerating customer satisfaction, and enhancing our team member experience.

Keerti is an exceptional engineer, colleague, and most importantly a friend. I greatly respect his vision, drive, and obsession over the customer. I will certainly miss his endless optimism and dedication to our We before I mindset. Keerti has dedicated the last 20 years to Aruba, and I know he looks forward to spending more time with his family. He will remain in an advisory role until October 31 to help ensure a smooth transition.

On the heels of Keerti’s decision, I am pleased to announce Phil Mottram has been appointed President of the Intelligent Edge business, reporting to me, effective immediately. Phil is a results-driven leader with extensive experience implementing growth strategies and leading transformation initiatives. He joined HPE in 2019 and most recently assumed the role as GM of our Communications Technology Group (CTG), leading a team of more than 5,000 team members, driving $500M in CTG-specific revenue and $3.5B in total HPE revenue. Under his leadership, our CTG business has provided world-class software, infrastructure, and support and services solutions to our global telecom customers.

With our Intelligent Edge business better positioned than it’s ever been, I am confident Phil’s strong operational background and technological prowess make him the ideal fit to ensure we accelerate our leadership in the market and continue to execute against our strategy. I look forward to partnering with Phil in the years to come.
