HPE introduces enhancements to HPE Synergy and previews a game-changing new approach to simplify hybrid IT management

This week HPE is getting together with customers and partners at Discover, HPEs semi-annual technology event, to share the latest on what we are doing to make hybrid IT simple. Not only does it give me the chance to share the progress were making, but it also gives me an opportunity to hear from customers how we can enable and accelerate their digital transformation.

If there's one commonality our customers have, it's that they live in a hybrid IT world. They run a mix of workloads on traditional IT, as well as private, managed and public clouds. That mix is different for every organization, dynamically changing as business needs require. Hybrid IT will be the state in which most enterprises operate for the foreseeable future. Helping customers succeed in this hybrid IT environment is a key strategic pillar for HPE.

While today's headlines might focus on public cloud capabilities and the growth of hyperscale public cloud providers, the reality is that private cloud use is growing almost as fast as the public cloud. Modern, on-premises software-defined infrastructure offers comparable speed and agility as the public cloud, with the control and security of on-premises, at a cost that can match or beat that of public clouds. It's imperative that organizations adopt an IT strategy that incorporates both private and public cloud resources, while also integrating with traditional systems.

In order to make to hybrid IT simple, we are innovating across three technology vectors:

  1. Hyperconverged integrated systems, where HPE combines infrastructure and advanced data services for virtualized workloads
  2. Composable infrastructure, a new category of infrastructure that delivers fluid pools of networking, storage and compute resources that can be composed and recomposed as business needs dictate
  3. Hybrid IT management platform that enables customers to develop and deploy applications quickly and optimize their right mix of on- and off-premises resources

We've made strong progress across these three areas, and we're announcing important updates to each at Discover, including new HPE Synergy Gen10 capabilities and sharing a preview of a first-of-its-kind approach to hybrid IT management in a multi-cloud environment.

In February, we bolstered our hyperconverged offerings with the acquisition of SimpliVity. Less than four months after the close of the acquisition, we are expanding our distribution reach and making it simpler to order SimpliVity as an integrated HPE hyperconverged appliance. Today, more than 2,000 customers are simplifying their VM environments with HPE SimpliVity.

Last year we introduced the industry's first composable infrastructure with HPE Synergy. In the first five months of this year, we are seeing strong adoption with nearly 400 customers across a variety of industries.

With the ability to provision infrastructure in just a few clicks, customers like DreamWorks Animation and the Washington State Department of Transportation are evolving their blade environments to HPE Synergy, enabling IT to dynamically compose and recompose resources with the flexibility and performance they need.

HPE Synergy is also helping customers including, Redbox and the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, create a new DevOps culture. Because Synergy is 100% programmable, IT can deliver infrastructure as code with developer environments and tools, including Docker, Mesosphere, Ansible and Chef.

At Discover, we are introducing enhancements to increase performance, improve security and extend storage options for HPE Synergy, as well as improved infrastructure automation for HPE OneView. You can find more details on those here

Extending composability across the entire hybrid IT estate

One of the biggest challenges customers face is how to manage and optimize their hybrid IT environment. With that challenge in mind, we are setting our sights on building the next phase of our composable strategy. At Discover we will unveil "Project New Stack" - a new approach to hybrid IT management, providing unified management that delivers build anywhere, deploy anywhere simplicity across traditional IT, private cloud, managed and public clouds.

Project New Stack will extend the ability to provide on-demand allocation of resources, operating environments and applications across an organization's entire hybrid IT estate, allowing collaboration among IT operations, developers and line of business managers.

Project New Stack will provide cost insights and analytics across an organization's entire hybrid IT estate, giving our customers the ability to deploy workloads based on business and economic requirements and making it easier to tap into underutilized resources already on-premises. In short, it will help customers optimize their right mix of hybrid IT.

Hybrid IT is here to stay, and HPE will help make it simple. The advancements we're making today with HPE SimpliVity and HPE Synergy, and in the future with Project New Stack, will take our composable capabilities to the next level so our customers can succeed in their digital transformation initiatives.
