Top virtual tech conferences to attend in 2020
The world of tech conferences and trade shows was upended by the pandemic, but most have recovered as online events. It's not the same experience, but in many ways, it's better. For example:
- There are no travel costs.
- Most of the conferences themselves are free to attendees.
- The all-online format has allowed innovations that were impractical for a physical conference, such as short sessions.
- Events that have concluded are generally available for replay not long afterward.
There is reason to believe that in-person tech conferences and trade shows will recover when people feel safe with them, but the innovations of online conferences will probably survive as well.
Below is a list of online events to come and some that have concluded. But don't ignore the completed ones; the archived sessions may be just what you're looking for.
Unless otherwise specified, all of these events are free.
Online conferences are a new phenomenon, and some events have suffered from technical problems. These problems may be reflected in the archives of past events, but as the producers of the conferences gain experience, quality should improve.

One researcher notes that his machine learning research wouldn't go anywhere without learning representation. It's how a system can translate sets of training images so it can learn to tell the difference between a fish and a child swimming.
Drawing researchers from academia and industry, entrepreneurs, engineers, and graduate students, the conference is focused on cutting-edge research on all aspects of deep learning used in the fields of artificial intelligence, statistics, and data science, as well as important application areas such as machine vision, computational biology, speech recognition, text understanding, gaming, and robotics.
