Hewlett Packard Enterprise is a veteran friendly company and I was easily able to translate my military skillset into usable talent. I started as a contractor and applied for a full time position within ten months. After eighteen months as the Program Manager for the Global Employment Screening Team, a promotion opportunity presented itself and I moved into my current role as the Talent Acquisition Operations Lead.

My advice for veterans is to take the time to accurately translate their military skills into understandable language on their resume - with special emphasis on intangible abilities like integrity, leadership, service and excellence. Stay away from mentioning acronyms either in written form or in conversation. Learn how to incorporate your military mission goals into corporate vernacular. When you talk about mission effectiveness in corporate terms, it speaks of being part of a bigger team and how your individual talents contribute to the success of the company.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is a very veteran-friendly company and has a great reputation in the market place, offering room for growth in your career. I began my career here as an Administrative Assistant and have held roles as a Business Analyst, Project/Program Manager, Technical Delivery Team Manager, Capability Leader, and now as the Asset Mgmt. Process & Audit Leader.

The same holds true today as was true in 1988, when I started with the company. There is tremendous opportunity for growth; I’ve had several ‘careers’ in my 20+ years here. So, my advice is to ‘dig in’, apply yourself, do more than is required, fill gaps, keep learning and growing your skillset, and keep the company’s best interests in the forefront of your thoughts. By doing that, you can and will succeed and be rewarded for those successes.
