HPE Tags and Custom Attributes

The feature enables the user to add the HPE custom tags to all the available hosts in VCenter which are managed by HPE OneView. To manually initiate the auto tagging task, click the refresh button . You can opt out of tagging by toggling Allow tagging feature button .

Following are the different methods of tags creation:
  • Creating a tag category
  • Creating a tag
  • Tag Association
  • Deletion of unassigned tags
Creating a Tag Category: Under this flow, user will be able to create a category. A tag category has the following properties:
  • Name — Displays the name of the category.
  • Description — Provides the description of the category.
  • Cardinality — Displays the number of tags a category could contain.
  • Associable Entities — Displays the types of elements to which the tags can be assigned. For example: HostSystem.
NOTE:

At this point, there is only one category available in Vcenter i.e, HPE Infrastructure and all the tags will be added to the same category.

Creating a Tag: After the creation of a tag category, you can create tags within that category. A tag has the following properties:
  • Name

  • Description

  • Category

All the tags will be created under same one Category that is HPE Infrastructure. Following tags will be created in first phase of this implementation.
  • Based on Model Type
  • Enclosure Type — Enclosure type will have two tags as C7000 and SYNERGY.
Tag Association: After you create a tag category and create a tag within the category, you can associate the tag with a vSphere managed object on following cases:
  • At the start of the OVM Service — Assigning the host to the specific tags, If you find the related data from OV.
  • Manual Tag Update: You can initiate a manual tag update operation.
  • At the end of Grow Cluster Operation: At the end of successful Grow Cluster operation, grown hosts will be assigned to specific tags.
  • During Import Cluster/Import Host Operation: At the end of successful import cluster/Import host operation, hosts will be assigned to specific tags.
Deletion of Tags: You can delete all the unused HPE tags which are created by HPE OneView for VMware vCenter. Deletion can be done two following ways:
  • On thread startup, check all the unassigned tags and delete them.
  • Manually update from the admin UI which would automatically check for any unassigned tags and deletes them.
