General Manager, High Performance Computing (HPC) and Mission Critical Solutions (MCS)
Peter Ungaro leads HPE’s High Performance Computing (HPC) and Mission Critical Solutions (MCS) business group. The HPC and MCS teams provide crucial digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence capabilities to customers who are involved in addressing some of the world’s most complex problems through data intensive workloads. The HPC and MCS portfolio includes Cray, Superdome Flex, Apollo, Moonshot and Edgeline.
Ungaro previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cray Inc., from 2005 until HPE’s acquisition of the company in September 2019. Ungaro was named CEO of the Year in 2006 by Seattle Business Monthly magazine for his leadership in turning the company around and one of “40 under 40” by Corporate Leader Magazine in 2008. In 2013, Bloomberg named him #4 on their list of “Top Tech Turnaround Artists” for generating a total shareholder return of more than 361% since becoming CEO of Cray. Ungaro joined Cray in 2003 as Vice President responsible for sales, marketing and service, and was later promoted to Senior Vice President.
Ungaro was appointed to the United States Department of Commerce’s Manufacturing Council and served from 2010 to 2012. The Council advises the Secretary of Commerce on matters relating to the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector and government policies and programmes that affect U.S. manufacturers.
Before joining Cray in 2003, Ungaro served as Vice President of Sales for Worldwide Deep Computing at IBM. In that role, he led global sales of all server and storage products for high performance computing, life sciences, digital media and business intelligence markets. He held a variety of other sales leadership positions since joining IBM in 1991. Ungaro received a B.A. in business administration from Washington State University.
