Executive Vice President & General Manager Compute, HPC & AI Hewlett Packard Enterprise

Neil MacDonald is the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Compute business and the High Performance Computing (HPC) & Artificial Intelligence (AI) business.

HPE’s multi-billion-dollar, market-leading Compute business helps customers remove complexity, drive speed and agility, and unlock their fullest potential to accelerate new outcomes with the industry’s broadest range of compute engineered for the hybrid world. The Compute business portfolio includes innovative solutions for our industry-leading ProLiant Servers (Rack and Tower), Synergy, Superdome Flex, Edgeline, OneView, Compute Cloud Services and Services. Neil also leads the OEM business across HPE.

The HPC & AI business delivers integrated systems comprised of software, hardware, and networking designed to address high-performance computing, AI, data analytics, and transaction processing workloads for government and commercial customers globally. The HPC & AI portfolio includes the HPE Cray EX and HPE Cray XD supercomputers, which are purpose-built to support exascale systems and systems dedicated to large-scale AI training. The business also delivers a robust suite of HPE Machine Learning development and management software to rapidly train AI models and manage data pipelines, and the HPE NonStop portfolio, which provides industry leading, high-availability, fault-tolerant software and solutions that power large-scale, mission-critical applications such as payment transactions and discrete manufacturing operations.

During his 28 years at Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) and HPE, Neil has brought his passion for customers and high-quality engineering to leading product organizations on four continents, developing servers, storage, networking, data center orchestration, supercomputing, and consumer electronics products by innovating in ASICs, hardware, firmware, software, and services.

Neil previously served as the General Manager of HPE’s Compute Solutions business unit and led the development and introduction of Synergy, the world’s first composable infrastructure platform, and ramped the business to over $1B. He has also held a variety of R&D, product management, supply chain, strategy, and M&A integration roles.

Prior to joining HP, Neil held a Commercial Manager role at Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre, bringing the transformational benefits of massive parallel supercomputing to industrial and commercial customers.

In 2023, Neil was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Computer History Museum. He previously served on the board of Pensando Systems, which was acquired by AMD in May 2022 for $1.9B. Neil is also NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) Director Certified and has completed the Competent Boards’ Climate Designation program. Additionally, he is a rugby referee and referee coach and serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations.

Neil holds a B.Sc. degree with Honors in AI with Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh, as well as an MBA from San Jose State University.
