THOMASVILLE — Hester Louise Carpenter of Thomasville, NC, passed away on January 14, 2013. She was born June 12, 1924, in Greenville, SC, to Louise and Robert B. Carpenter Sr.
She graduated from Thomasville High School and received her degree from Winthrop College. She retired after 50 years with Wachovia Bank and was an active member of Memorial UMC, serving as treasurer of the Thomasville district.
She is survived by her brother, Robert B. Carpenter Jr.; and three nieces, Lee Harrizanoff, Cathy Bear and June Carpenter.
A memorial service will held at Memorial United Methodist Church at a later date.
LEXINGTON — Mary Grace Swing Chapman, 82, of NC Highway 47, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at her home.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Beck’s Reformed Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at the home of her son on Burkhart Road. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.
Carolyn E. “Boogie” Crewey
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Carolyn E. “Boogie” Crewey, 86, a resident of High Point, formerly of Houston, TX, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013.
She was born September 6, 1926, in Surry County, NC, to the late Thomas L. Jacobs and Minnie Ford Jacobs. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, M/Sgt Giles W. Crewey; her son, Michael J. Crewey; 2 brothers; and 5 sisters.
She is survived by her brother, Plato “Jake” Jacobs of Winston-Salem, NC; a niece, Peggy Christy of the home; and a number of other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are 3 special great-nieces who helped with her care, Anne Cashwell and her husband Wes, Kim Christy, and Penny Clark and her special caregiver, Joan Hammonds.
No services will be held and she will be interred at a later date beside her husband in Houston National Cemetery, in Houston, TX. ASHEBORO — Mr. Emery Elizah Clarkson Hill, 96, of Asheboro, NC, died Monday, January 14, 2013. THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Gretchen Louise Clodfelter Hunt, 90, a resident of 4615 NC Highway 62 and formerly of Kingston Road, died Monday, January 14, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Davidson County, October 4, 1922, a daughter of Alonzo Clodfelter and Grace Clodfelter Clodfelter and had been a lifelong resident of this area. She was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a former children’s Sunday school teacher and taught Bible School. She was also active in the United Methodist Women of the church and the Archdale Senior Citizens group. She had retired from Slate Specialty Sales.
On August 8, 1944, she was married to Raymond Junior Hunt, who died May 3, 1997. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, J. Van Clodfelter and Billy Clodfelter. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Loretta Baker and her husband James of the home; three sisters, Olean Heter, Odessa Boles and Suzanne Little and her husband Don, all of Thomasville. Also surviving are a grandson, Bobby Troxler and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Troxler and Savannah Troxler.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Arthur Holland. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at the residence. Memorials may be directed to Bethel United Methodist Church, 508 Fisher Ferry Street, Thomasville, NC 27360.

Nickey Cicero Kinley
SOPHIA — Nickey Cicero Kinley, 54, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, at Duke University Hospital.
Mr. Kinley was born on March 17, 1958, in High Point, a son of the late George Bulla and Lossie (Brann) Kinley. He was a self-employed furniture salesman in the surrounding areas for most of his life.
During his younger years he attended Fairview Methodist Church.
He enjoyed going to the beach, being a clown and making those close to him laugh, but mostly he loved being with his family and friends.
Mr. Kinley is survived by eight sisters, Bernice Gray and husband, Larry, Judy Canter and husband, Melvin, Barbara Atkins and husband, Ken, Kathy Patty and husband, Darrell, all of Archdale, Dee Holt of Denton, Lisa Roberts and husband Danny, Velvet Walker all of Archdale, and Kim Kinley and Randy Bryan of Sophia; two brothers, Terry Kinley of High Point and Glenn Kinley and wife, Carolyn of Sophia; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, at Fairview United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the entire staff of the Liver Transplant Team at Duke University Hospital, especially Dr. Allister Smith and Sue Gagan. The family also wants to thank Mr. Kinley’s longtime companion and caregiver, Eileen for all her support.
The family will receive friends at the home of Kim Kinley prior to and after the service.

Wheeler Andrew Lewis
HIGH POINT — Mr. Wheeler Andrew Lewis, 86, departed this earthly life on Friday, January 11, 2013, at his residence. He was born on April 4, 1926, in Plymouth, NC, to the late Partha Mann Lewis.
He received his formal education at Washington High School in Mt. Vernon, NY. Mr. Lewis accepted Christ as his Savior in 1989 and joined Temple Memorial Baptist Church in High Point, NC, after relocating from Mt.Vernon, NY.
He was united in holy matrimony to Mary Austin Lewis on December 29, 1989, in High Point. Wheeler later joined Hallelujah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Arthur Byrd and Pastor George Steele.
Mr. Lewis enlisted into the US Air Force in 1955, serving his country for 9 years and was honorably discharged. He was employed with the United States Postal Service for 18 years. Mr. Lewis enjoyed bowling and watching cowboy movies. He would look forward to eating his sister-in-law’s, Ms. Jessie, fried chicken, her cake topped with lots of icing and drinking her kool-aid.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and one son.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Mrs. Mary Austin Lewis; five sisters-in-law, seven brothers-in-law; one daughter and two sons.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Peoples Funeral Chapel. Family visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m.-1:00 p.m. at the chapel.
