Uncle Sam Jam is a go, rain or shine
Rain won’t stop the Uncle Sam Jam.
The High Point Parks and Recreation Department’s July Fourth event will go on today no matter the weather, said Sherry Paul, recreations supervisor.
By noon Wednesday, maintenance crews at Oak Hollow Festival Park had set up two tents and a backdrop on the dock, converting it into a stage. Kayaker Ron Selleck was one of the few park-goers during Wednesday’s wet weather.
Four more tents were set up around the park, but some vendor deliveries and other preparations had to be delayed because of the rain, Paul said.
Though there is a 40 percent chance of showers during the day, that chance is only slight after 10 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled for 15 minutes before that.
“We’ll be ready when the gates open at 4:30,” Paul said. “Bring your waterproof blankets and lawn chairs,” she joked.
