GUILFORD COUNTY – Community leaders from across Guilford County will participate in the annual Principal for a Day on Tuesday.

The event provides an opportunity for corporate and community leaders to get a first-hand look at what Guilford County is doing to improve instruction in the schools as well as to promote understanding of what is demanded of principals in their dual roles as managers and instructional leaders.

Participants will get a close-up look of both the strengths of the county’s public schools and the challenges they face.

Sixty-eight community residents, including several elected officials and corporate leaders, will spend the morning with a principal.

Following the experience in the schools, participants and the school principals will attend a luncheon to discuss their experiences and ways to build school-community relationships.

The lunch will begin at noon at Revolution Mills Event Center, 1200 Revolution Mill Drive, Greensboro.

The annual event is sponsored by the Guilford Education Alliance and is fashioned after similar programs across the country.

“We are very excited to continue to offer this program with the goal of deepening understanding of our schools and the many accomplishments of our students and teachers,” said Margaret Arbuckle, Alliance executive director.

“We are grateful to the principals for their willingness to assist us as we build civic commitment to education in our county and move toward making education the TOP priority of citizens of Guilford County,”

Other activities sponsored by Guilford Education Alliance include the annual Education Summit, Rookie Teacher of the Year Breakfast, the Education Leadership Academy, parent advocacy programs and multiple community forums focused on the Guilford County Schools budget and other education issues.
