YOUR VIEW: Health care costs can bankrupt families

A new federal study has proven what we’ve all been feeling in our purses lately: health care spending is about to bankrupt all of us.

The study showed that health care spending rose to $2.5 trillion in 2009, which is $8,047 for each one of us. It’s projected to nearly double by 2019.

Our family can’t weather such a storm!

My daughter is between the proverbial rock and a hard place. She can’t get affordable insurance because she has epilepsy; but she can’t afford to buy her medications either!

What is she supposed to do? Her problem, which is similar to far too many Americans, can’t be ignored or delayed any longer. Not even another year!

Since Congress is incredibly close to passing real health care reform, I am publicly standing with President Obama in calling on Congress to finish the job it started.

They all know changes must be made and the longer we wait, the greater will be the burden of rising costs which will mean more lost jobs, more families in bankruptcy and more crushing debt for our country.

I love our region, our state and our nation and call on others who feel the way I do to be vocal about it. Encourage your representative to not give up!

Now is the time for action on health care

It’s high time our government passes a health care bill. Unfortunately, the Republican Party seems to not give any advice, only to block anything our president chooses, for purely partisan policies.

Is the public to be thrown under the bus to satisfy the insurance companies and special interests? We are so close. Let’s write and call our elected officials to get off their collective butts and do what’s right!

For Jesus’ sake, replace members of City Council

Although the filing period for High Point city elections isn’t until July, now is the time to start thinking about those elections.

The mayor and all of the High Point City Council seats will be on the ballot. Now’s the favorable time for the citizens of High Point to give these scalawags an opportunity to get out and earn an honest living.

This is the group that opposed opening up City Council meetings using the name of Jesus. How else can one get a prayer answered without using the name Jesus, a name that is exalted above every name (Philippians 2:9).

Every Christian, every pastor, (if you can keep some of these pastors off the golf course long enough to vote) should make this City Council election their first priority, putting Jesus first, others second and yourself third, putting all new faces on the High Point City Council.

Health care plan would balloon budget deficit

I am so glad that the health care debacle bill has been stopped. It is about time that these clowns in Washington start listening to us. The 2,000 page bill would never save a dime. It would just balloon the deficit to even greater proportions. I am more angry than I have ever been. I will never vote for another Democrat.

When you 'Stop the Politicians' from taking trillions from insurance, drug and other companies, you'll see the insurance and drug companies going back to 'servicing' the Taxpayers that's paid all these high premiums and high drug bills all these years and the cost of insurance and drugs will go back to the prices that was being paid in the 70's, NEXT TO NOTHING!

“Insurance Outrage”, a recent article, brought me back to writing about

incompetent, corrupt and greedy politicians, instead of working on my novels.

I’ve written several articles about how to ‘Stop the Trillions from flowing into

politicians’ pockets from insurance and drug companies!’ Doesn’t take a rocket

scientist to figure this out how these ‘donations’ created such deterioration to

America.

What happened to honesty, integrity, principles and respect when people had to

pay their own way, their own doctors and hospitals? Let’s see, this was before

decades of the incompetent, corrupt, and greedy blood-sucking ticks and their

very deep pockets!

Taxpayers do you remember the ‘Heartbeat of America’ - American textile and

furniture manufacturing businesses making and selling their goods; therefore,

being able to buy homes, cars, and food for their families. Politicians took this

away from hard-working Taxpayers with their ‘Free Trade’, stating America would

become a service country. Really, the only servicing being done now is

unemployment, social and welfare offices! Fair Tax’ must be put into law, making

everyone a paying participant!

America is now an enslaved nation with trillions of dollars in debt and all because

of deceit and greed. I’m quoting John Adams - “There are two ways to conquer

and enslave a nation. One is by the sword, the other is by debt.” Surely, you

remember history and the Dictator that said “We’ll destroy America and never lift

a finger!” If this doesn’t wake you up, nothing will!

When are Taxpayers going to hear the words “We, the politicians, are going to

stop taking donations from insurance, drug companies or any company, bank or

person. We intend to cut our salaries and retirements to $12,000.00 yearly, in

order to reduce the trillion dollars we’ve borrowed without Taxpayers consent!”

Why can't our bureaucrats fix the problem for people like Pat Wheeler and her daughter without bankrupting the country and ruining the quality of healthcare for the rest of us? The answer for now is that the liberal Democrats don't really care about anyone's problems. They just want more power.

Erik Stookey should ask himself how the Republicans were able to block Obamacare when the Democrats controlled the White House and had overwhelming majorities in both the House and the Senate.

Reid Joyce should have mentioned that there was one High Point city council member who supported prayer at the meetings: Michael Pugh.

Pugh deserves to be re-elected. Throw the rest of the bums out!

Please note in advance that the comments following may be perceived as harsh and cruel by those who are are ill or have loved ones who are suffering. Don't read on.

I empathize with Wheeler's daughter's problem with paying for her health care needs. She is not, however, looking for health insurance. She is looking for someone who can and will pay for her health care costs. Why do you believe that it is the obligation of others to pay for you or your daughter's health care through government mandated programs and taxes?

Insurance is paid on speculation that someday the health benefit may be required. As such, there is no such thing as insurance for a pre-existing condition. There is no speculation about the need for health benefits on pre-existing conditions, hence there is no insurance.

The broader question for both Wheeler and Stookey: Where do you propose to come up with the money to pay for this expanded health care program? Is there some hidden money tree (not counting the government printing presses) from which a supply of funds will spring forth?

Blunt fact: There is no more money available in this nation to pay for additional programs. The only way we can have a national health care program is by cutting out some existing programs. What programs do you propose be cut/eliminated? Every program which you suggest for reduction will have ardent proponents who will insist that no cuts could possibly be made without endangering some portion of our society.

Why is your need more urgent than theirs?
