HIGH POINT – Edith Louise McKinnon Lewis, 88, of High Point, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, January 18, 2010, at her home, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Edith was born on February 28, 1921, in High Point to the late John H and Ethie Barber McKinnon.and lived in the High Point area her entire life. She retired from Alderman Studios, was a member of First Wesleyan Church, and took great pleasure in singing with the Golden Tones.
On August 2, 1941 she married Gilbert Lawson Lewis, who preceded her in death on December 5, 1996. She was also preceded in death, by her beloved daughter Barbara Jean Forbis on December 28, 2005, her grandson Aaron Frey, two infant daughters, Sherry and Dana Lewis, three brothers, Clyde, Bob and Gay McKinnon, and two sisters Edna Morton, and Alma McKinnon.
Surviving are her devoted daughter Gayla Frey and her husband Jim of Arkansas, granddaughters, Serene Davis and Anna Sills, both of Arkansas, Grandsons, Greg Forbis of Thomasville, Jimmy Forbis of the home, and Nate Frey of Arkansas and Great-grandson Jaden Sills of Arkansas. Also surviving are her sister-in laws, Joretta Lewis and AnnieMae Lewis, both of High Point, Joyce McKinnon of Greensboro and June Hayworth of Thomasville, many nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend, Margaret Harris of High Point
Funeral Services will be held at Sechrest Funeral Chapel, 1301 East Lexington Avenue on Thursday January 21, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Keith Officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, January 20, 2010, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Home on East Lexington Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont 1801 Westchester Dr, High Point, NC 27262.

Flossie Bell Morgan
HIGH POINT – Mrs. Flossie Bell Morgan was born on July 17, 1924, in Raeford, North Carolina to the late Rebecca Harrington and Dan Ray. On Saturday, January 16, 2010, after a brief stay at High Point Regional Hospital, the Lord called one of His most precious angels home for what she worked so diligently for, her eternal rest.
Flossie, as affectionately became known, was a product of Hoke County School System. As a retiree from Alma Desk Company and Marshall’s Dry Cleaning for more than 20 years, Flossie was a hard and dedicated worker until her health declined. Her hobbies included traveling, fishing and watching football. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family as it was nothing for her home to be filled with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
This gentle warrior was a dedicated member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was a part of the Missionary Circle #1. There was very little that could stop her from attending her greatest enjoyment, Bible study and prayer meeting. Flossie was passionate about being in the presence of God and was a great supporter of her children and grandchildren in ministry. This God-fearing woman was the epitome of grace and virtue in every area of her life and was known as a connoisseur of beautiful hats and shoes which represented her love for church couture.
Flossie was preceded in death by her husband, Ivery Sam Morgan, two sisters, Minnie Mae Dowdy and Jeanie Robinson, one son, Henry Lee Morgan, special friends, Green Armstrong and Maudie Mae Weeks.
She leaves a legacy of love and precious memories to her eight children; Loretta Rush, Jennie Baldwin (Randall), Samuel Morgan, Jr. (Ruth), Dorothy Mitchell (David), Mary Morgan (Eddie), James Morgan, Peggy Morgan, and Brenda Morgan all of High Point, North Carolina. Her legacy continues with twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21, 2010, at 2 p.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church in High Point, North Carolina. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will be at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown, North Carolina.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, High Point, North Carolina.
Gyrene Spencer Sutton
NORWALK, Conn. – Gyrene Spencer Sutton, a resident of Norwalk, Connecticut for 25 years, died Friday, January 15, 2010. She was 86 years old.
Born July 28, 1923, to Robert and Tishie Morrison in Robbins, North Carolina. For many years, she worked as a teacher’s aide in the New Canaan Public Schools. She was a member of New Beginnings Community Church in Darien.
She was predeceased by her first husband Burnice Spencer.
She is survived by her second husband Theodore R. Sutton, a son Ralph Morrison of High Point, NC, four daughters, Stephanie Robertson of Norwalk, Mary Smaw of Brandywine, MD, Della Spencer of Bridgeport, Jammie Spencer of Norwalk, two sisters, Frances Charles of High Point, NC and Rosie Anderson of New Canaan, eleven (11) grandchildren, eight (8) great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 21st at New Beginnings Community Church, 65 Tokeneke Rd, Darien. Funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment at Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport.

William Monroe Rankin Sr.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – William Monroe Rankin, Sr., age 70, died Saturday, January 16, 2010.
Born March 26, 1939, he was a son of the late Clay William and Nellie Willard Rankin. Mr. Rankin was a retired manager for Exxon Corporation and faithfully served in the United States Marine Corp.
Mr. Rankin is survived by a son, William Monroe Rankin, Jr.; two daughters, Wanda and Terri; a brother, Joseph E. Rankin of Spartanburg; two sisters, Barbara Peel and her husband Robert of Spartanburg, Margaret Montjoy and her husband Melvyn of Roebuck; and a cousin Betty Sparks of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a brother, Billy Richard Rankin.
Graveside services will be held today, Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dennis Reid.

Brenda Walker Hilton
TRINITY – Brenda Kay Walker Hilton, 64, of Kimberly Lane, died peacefully Monday, January 18, 2010, at High Point Regional Hospital while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born January 27, 1945, in High Point, a daughter of the late Carl Gilbert and Clara Avis Burge Walker. A resident of the Trinity area most of her life, Mrs. Hilton was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, but her greatest honor was being “Mawmaw”. She was a longtime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and the Tom Stevens Sunday School Class.
On January 19, 1962, she married Thomas “Tommy” Wayne Hilton who survives of the residence. Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa Hilton Carter and husband, Keith of Sophia and Angela “Angie” Hilton Davis of Trinity; three grandchildren, Kelly Carter Mowery of High Point, Kokie Reynolds Davis of Trinity, and Taylor Radford of Winston-Salem; two great-grandchildren, Landon Carter Mowery and Colby Grace Mowery, both of High Point; two sisters, Karen Walker Davis of Trinity and Carla Walker Skidmore and husband Marty of Trinity; several nieces and nephews, all of whom affectionately called her “Sissy”.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Woods and Reverend Franklin “Buddy” Fox officiating. Interment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale and other times at the residence.

HIGH POINT – Matthew Wayne Bullis, 17, beloved son of Michael and Vicky Summers Bullis passed away on January 17, 2010, following a brief illness.
Matthew was born on March 20, 1992, in Guilford County. At the time of his death he was a senior at Southwest Guilford High School. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed country music and 4-wheeling.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Vicky Summers Bullis of the residence, his father and step-mother, Michael and Crystal Bullis of High Point, two step-brothers, Benjamin Matthew Lord of High Point and Christopher Ray Lord serving in the United States Army in Washington, D.C. and his wife, Amanda, Grandmother, Imogene Pearman of Gibsonville and Grandmother, Lelia Bullis of High Point.
The Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by Reverend Charles Roberts. The interment will be in Deep River Friends Cemetery.
