YOUR VIEW: How much less restrictive government do you want?
The comic page is supposed to make us laugh, the opinion page is to make us think. Sometimes they get confused, and we’ll have a good laugh at an opinion. Then we are reminded that the truth is not necessarily on this page of the paper but rather one’s interpretation of the truth.
The greatest editor I ever met said “the stories in tomorrow’s paper cannot be supported by incorrect information in today’s paper.” In the Dec. 31 paper, that same editor wrote “Our optimism today is tempered by the fact that in power now is a Democratic presidential administration and a Democratic majority Congress that believes more government control and involvement in our lives across a broad range ... .” I chuckled and wondered if the HPE editors ever said this during the Bush 43 tenure. I wonder if the mess we are in is a direct result of that era of removing restrictions?
I wonder, what part of less restrictive government do you want?
• Let the banks and investment houses run wild again? They will if you let them, then the people will again suffer to bail them out, as they did in the 1930s, as we are today.
• More tax breaks to mega-agriculture as they manipulate the price of commodities and run what’s left of America’s family farms out of business?
• Health insurance companies that are able to deny procedures with no recourse, but able to compensate their CEO $1,923 per hour?
Tell us what that “less restrictive government” would look like, that would steel your optimism?
Optimistic here.

Guilford County libraries should be connected online
Why isn’t the High Point Neal F. Austin Public Library connected online with other Guilford County libraries? For the last two months, I have gone online at the Thomasville library to get books because High Point didn’t have what I wanted.
When I go online to Thomasville, I can get books from them as well as Lexington, North Davidson, West Davidson and other libraries in Davidson County because the county works together. The same with Archdale. I get books from them and other towns in Randolph county, sheboro for one.
If Guilford County worked together, I wouldn’t have to go to other towns.

One way of telling that a letter has made some good point's is the length of Spicoli's comments. The longer he rambles on Trying to dispute the point's in a letter - The better the letter is. J. Brigham's letter today must have really struck a nerve.
Still bringing up Bush?
Did Bush takeover any auto companies?
Did Bush try to takeover 1/6 of the US economy while colluding with drug companies, insurance companies, and other liberal special interest groups?
Did Bush use an economic crisis to create an massively expensive stimulus package that paid off unions and liberal special interest groups while allowing the national unemployment rate to rise above 10%?
Did Bush create an anti-business environment where employers will not hire people because they don't know how much the government will extract from their profits?
Did Bush run a 1.4 trillion dollar deficit in any single year?
Did Bush ever ask anyone to spy on their neighbors?

It's pretty easy to see what less restrictive government would look like. It's called freedom. Along with freedom comes personal responsibility. These are two concepts that liberals do not understand but conservatives write about all the time.
If you want to see what less restrictive government would look like, try opening your eyes.
Good letter Mr. Brigham. For some time now the HPE has been Right of center. It is most evident in their Editorials, like the one you pointed out, and like the one yesterday when they (Wheeler/Blount) wrote__" While the Copenhagen climate confab was in full force last month trying to make the U.S. feel guilty for becoming the world’s leading developed nation"__ .
At times the HPE's Right Tilt shows up in it's "Reporting" also. Case in point - Gerald Hege and Cathy B. Hinson. The HPE has yet to ask either one of these candidates a tough question or any sort of question other than the Softball questions they lobbed at both candidates when they announced their intentions to run, one for Sheriff and one for U.S. Representative - These are Serious positions and candidates for them should be asked some Serious questions.
