Doreen Beshears Caudle

HIGH POINT – On Thursday, December 24, 2009, Alice Doreen Beshears Caudle passed away peacefully at the Hospice Home at High Point. She was born on December 25, 1946 in High Point to Fain Beshears and Kathryn Townsend Beshears Craven who preceded her in death.

Surviving of the home is longtime companion Jerry Stone and her faithful furry friend Ellerbee. She is survived by one daughter, Janna Ridge of high Point and two granddaughters Madison Ridge-Canoy and Gilly Ridge-Canoy, the lights of her life. She is also survived by sisters Lavonne Oakley and husband Billy and Marty Beshears, both of Trinity, brothers Gareth Beshears and wife Mary of Conway, SC and Steve Beshears and wife Martha of Wallburg, many nieces and nephews and Jerry and Tina Stone of Thomasville.

Doreen loved to travel. She enjoyed the beautiful islands of Hawaii and the Caribbean. But she most loved spending time with her granddaughters at the beach. She and Jerry enjoyed spending time working in their yard and keeping up with current events. Doreen graduated from Ashmore Business School and worked as an administrative assistant most of her life. She was employed at Exact Commercial USA at the time of her illness.

Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. The family will receive friends following the service. Private entombment services will be held in the mausoleum of Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262. Thank you to the staff on OCU at High Point Regional cancer Center and Hospice Home at High Point for all of the wonderful care Doreen received. Special thanks to Dr. Elliott Williams and Dr. Susan Williford for making her final journey and our journey with her one of comfort and peace.

Natalia Morato-Lozano

LEXINGTON – Natalia Carmen Morato-Lozano, 6 months, died Dec. 21, 2009, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ruth Brooks

HIGH POINT – Mrs. Ruth E. Bennett Brooks 87, of High Point NC., a resident of Westwood Rehabilitation Center in Archdale NC., went to be with our Lord early Monday morning, December 21, 2009. God has called His chosen to come home and rest. She was born on March 18, 1922 to the late Mr. John and Lottie Price of Newton, NC.

She was a graduate of Bennett College in Greensboro, NC and received her Master’s Degree at New York University. She taught Home Economics in Statesville, NC High Schools for forty plus years.

After retiring she joined and faithfully attended Memorial United Methodist Church of Thomasville, NC., until failing health.

She was a member of the choir and the Floor Club. She loved life and was full of laughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Dr. Glenn A. Brooks , and both parents John and Lottie Price.

Mrs. Ruth Brooks is survived by her sister in-law Mrs. Donna Brooks Smyre, and niece Yvette M. Smyre both of Greensboro, NC. Also, two god children, Adelaid Talbert of Midway, NC., Russell Price of New York, NY and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00PM Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 Randolph Street, Thomasville, NC. Family visitation is at 1:30 PM prior to service. Interment, Holly Hill Memorial Park, 401 West Holly Hill Rd, Thomasville, NC.

Lettie Owens

HIGH POINT – Mrs. Lettie Hughes Owens, 83, of High Point, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Wesleyan Arms.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Green Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

Bennett Gibson Davenport

JAMESTOWN– Mr. Bennett Gibson (Dave) Davenport (W4GCJ), 88, of Jamestown died Wed., Dec. 23, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Davenport was born July 27, 1921 in Greenwood, S.C. ; a son of Bennett and Lucile Adams Davenport. He was educated in the schools in Greenwood, S.C. schools and attended the University of South Carolina, Clemson University, and Fordham University. He taught electronics at Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, N.C. He had been an Amateur Radio Operator for 70 years and was in the Quarter Century Wireless Association. In 1946 he received his Pilot’s License and was a veteran of World War II serving in Alaska as a communication’s operator. After military service he studied and became a radio T. V. repairman. In 1957 he recorded the Russian Sputnik on his Ham radio. He also worked for Douglas Aircraft and in the 1960’s he worked for NASA in the space program. Mr. Davenport worked in a soup kitchen in Columbia, S.C. and taught Sunday school for a number of years. He put his faith in action by taking the Disciple Bible Study after beginning to attend Jamestown United Methodist Church. He did volunteer repair at Jamestown United Methodist Church for the past three years. He was a wonderful husband, father and Christian and had a servant’s spirit. In April 9, 1948 he married to the former Margaret Schemmer who died Nov. 22, 2000. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Carolyn Susan Davenport.

Mr. Davenport is survived by a daughter Darlene Davenport of Jamestown.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jamestown United Methodist Church by Dr. Gary Royals, Rev. Jim Watford and Rev. Jay Bowers. Visitation will follow immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. The inurnment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery, Columbia, S.C. at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Jamestown United Methodist Church Building Maintenance Fund, 403 E. Main St., Jamestown, N.C. 27282.

Laird Mason Freeman

HIGH POINT – Mr. Laird Mason Freeman, age 62, of High Point died Thursday 24th at Hospice Home at High Point.

Mr. Freeman was born in High Point on March 28th, 1947 a son to the late Charles and Daisy Brown Freeman. Most of his life was spent in High Point where he was a graduate of High Point High School, class of 1965, and a 1969 graduate of High Point College, now High Point University. He was of the Quaker faith. On October 15th, 1973, he was employed by the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) as a bank Examiner where he worked for 31 years, retiring as a senior examiner for the Atlanta region in 2004. He also was a life member of the NRA. On March 18, 1995 he married the former Sandra Sue Conner, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are a step-daughter, Kathy S. Kindley and her husband Jay Hussey of Asheboro; a step-son Mark W. Kindley his wife Beverly and their Children Johnathan and Abigail Grace of Greensboro; a sister, Deborah Reich her husband Michael and their son Nathan of Mt. Airy.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Lamont Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mark Kinley, Nathan Reich, Doug Conner, Christopher Conner, Rick Barringer and Roger Thompson.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.

HIGH POINT – Mary Clois Morgan, 85, of 1729 N.C. 62 West, died Dec. 24, 2009, at GrayBrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
