Terry Price, a retired state highway patrolman who sought the post three years ago, said Thursday he’ll seek the Republican sheriff’s nomination in the May 4 party primary.
Hege, an admitted felon who resigned as sheriff five years ago after pleading guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice, and Grice have indicated they will file to run during the candidate filing period in February.
Price finished second in the 2006 Republican primary to Grice, who won the six-candidate primary with 47 percent of the vote.
Price received 37 percent of the primary vote three years ago. Grice was appointed sheriff in 2004 after Hege resigned following his guilty plea.
Price said he was encouraged by his showing in the primary and believes his extensive law enforcement experience would benefit the county. He served in the N.C. State Highway Patrol for more than 32 years.
After retiring in October 2005, Price became active in Davidson County Republican politics. He served as vice chairman of the county Republican Party for two years and now is vice chairman of the 12th District Republican Party.
Price, who has lived in Davidson County since 1991, said Grice’s and Hege’s presence in the race doesn’t affect his decision to run.
“My children grew up here, and I’m just trying to make this a better place for our grandkids,” Price said.
The winner of the Republican primary will face the Democratic sheriff’s nominee in the general election a year from this month.

You probably have done things worse than Hege but you have not been caught, yet. Sounds like you are worried. I have kept up with Hege over the years. He was made an escape goat by the local demos, seems to me that all criminals do not want Hege back in, what category are you in t-heel
Unfortunately, there are probably enough dimwits like you in Davidson County who will cast the required number of votes to re-elect him.
He made a complete mockery of law enforcement and was a nationwide joke by the end of his last tenure. Davidson County will be set back 50 years if he returns.
Look at what the SHP is doing now, by some meer coincedence, lost all the records concerning Easley. Mmmmmmm.
