YOUR VIEW: Let’s take care of our local businesses first
Now I know that the state was not going to write a check out for that amount, but I also know that Dell could have received in benefits that amount for investing in this state.
I am upset that Dell is moving to Mexico and closing the local business.
The local and state governments should look at this as an education. Let’s say that instead of one company getting all those incentives we spread that money around to possibly 300 companies. Let’s say we incentivised all companies to grow to 20 employees and all companies to get to $1 million in yearly sales. They would receive some tax advantages, or some investment relief. If they all survived, then we would have 6,000 employed workers at this time. If only half of the companies survived, we would still have 3,000 employed.
We need to find ways of growing, helping and supporting our local businesses.
They are the backbone of our economy. The more we take care of local, the less we have to search for companies to come here.
If we make this area business and company friendly, then they will come without bribery ... I mean incentives.

Why check for rabies when dog’s shots are current?
On Oct. 8, our beloved pet, Maggie, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. She had gotten out of our fenced in backyard (she stayed in the house with us except to go outside and do her “thing,” as we called it) and found her way to the street. She was a Jack Russell Terrier.
I have always tried to be a law-abiding citizen, do the right thing. When the veterinarian told me she had to be checked for rabies, I questioned, why? Her shots were up to date. They even checked with our veterinarian and he told them the same thing. I did not know how this was done and I will not go into the details; it just added more pain and heartache to what we were already feeling.
They told me if Maggie had lived 24 hours, they would not have to do the test. It was because she had bitten someone who had tried to help her. It was the law. My question is, why did I have shots up to date? Because it was the law and I loved her. Some day I will get another dog. I will love and care for her just as I did Maggie. I know the shot is for protecting people and animals from rabies. I will obey the law.
Some people with say, “Oh, it was just a dog.” We had Maggie for 11 years. She was a loyal friend who wanted to be loved and gave love in return. Believe me she was and did. She was God’s creation, and as a friend reminded me, when Noah built the Ark, he provided for the pets. Maggie was well provided for. She was a wonderful and loving pet and will be truly missed.

China awakes in the effort to combat climate change
This is in response to Michael Wines' (New York Times) article on Beijing’s improving air pollution:
For a city whose environmental activism over the past decades has been as stagnant as molasses, this progress toward improved air quality is monumental. Wines acknowledges that “the war is far from won,” yet the scope of progress in actually combating pollution at this point is not so important in comparison to the simple fact that Chinese officials are now enacting environmentally-friendly legislation.
Sometimes, it’s the thought that counts, and while Beijing’s new policies may not be reaping drastic environmental changes, its actions certainly have the potential to act as a catalyst in mobilizing other cities to a larger cause. Cooperation from this looming dragon is highly instrumental in combating global climate change, and while Beijing’s environmental activism is certainly still in its infancy stages, it should be applauded as its initiative serves a higher purpose in stimulating environmental activism around the globe.

What’s wrong or right about the “Pelosicare” health care bill being debated in the U.S. House? In 30 words or less (no name, address required) e-mail your thoughts to letterbox@hpe.com. Here is one response:
• The name says it all, “Pelosicare”! Pelosi only cares about herself and no one else! If she won’t choose the plan herself, don’t cram it down our throats!

Quoting Ann Coulter?...That says it all - No further comment necessary.
Google is awesome, (you should try it sometime, Mike)just learned how Red NY's 23rd congressinal district actually is. There are 45,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats and some local offices in the district have been held by Republicans for over a 120 years. Seemed like a pretty sure win for the Republicans before Palin, Limbaugh and Beck got involved. It seems the Republicans of up state NY don't want any part of the lunatic fringe - Good for them.
BTW - Nice move by Obama to appoint John McHugh as Secretary of the Army. McHugh out of the way-----> Special election to fill his seat-----> One less Republican in the House.
Make no mistake about it, Doug Hoffman was Palin's candidate. Hopefully she will be busy next year campaigning for Conservatives all over the country - The Democratic Party should even offer to pay her expences (except for her wardrobe - we all know how she likes to shop when someone else is paying.{$150,000.00 !!!})
Also Palin related...Beck said last week that he expects Palin to run in 2012 as a third party candidate...Wouldn't that be great for Obama..."You Betcha"...(wink,wink)
1. Celebrity endorsements sell products, but they don't mean much in political races, unless you're Oprah.
2. Palin's fanbase isn't actually all that large. They're just loud because they think they're being put upon (they are, because they're doing something dumb and deserve to be told so). Most conservatives seem to be well aware that she is constantly being caught in provable lies and that her response to being caught is to keep repeating them.
3. People are sick of the neocon elitist, exclusionary "cleaning house" move towards political extremism, which is one of the reasons the Republican Party is now 50% smaller than the Democratic Party. Palin is part of that move, and it isn't selling.
-----
Speaking of provable lies: Anyone see two weeks ago where MSNBC and other commentators devoted time to retracting their use of that false Rush Limbaugh quote?
Anyone see Rush one week ago? When he repeated a hoax about Obama and was informed it was false? Rush admitted it was false, and then... and here's the great part, full of integrity, this guy really deserves defending... instead of retracting it, HE SAID IT WAS TRUE ANYWAY.
Really.
Obama put a lot of effort into keeping Corzine in office and he failed. (Good thing for NJ.)
Obama fails at a lot of things. (Some of that is good for the country, some of it isn't.)
Liberal Democrats are rightfully known for high taxes and big government. Most people in NJ and VA don't want either. NJ has some of the highest taxes and cost of living in the country. The people there know that nothing will change as long as the Democrats are in office. Well, some people know that. The only surprise about this election is that so many people still haven't figured it out.
I'm looking forward to November 2010 because I know the liberal Democrats still don't get it and never will.
Should be a good thumpin!
For Carlene Baity, anyone who says "Oh, it was just a dog" is an idiot and should be ignored.
For Albert Rhoton, China just about had no choice but to do something about the air pollution in Beijing. That does not mean that they're going to sign onto something stupid like cap-n-trade (cap-n-tax). They might say they're going to do it, in an attempt to get us to throw away our super-power status, but they are not going to actually do anything that will hurt their economy. Hopefully, we won't let the liberals in DC do too much damage here. The best thing the world can do to "combat global climate change" is to expose the sham that is Al Gore.
Tues. elections - Republicans had a good night in Va. and N.J. , but Palin's candidate lost in NY's 23rd. What does it mean?
This person wouldn't know, but it has been pointed out in this forum several times that Nancy Pelosi and all other senators and congressmen have the exact same insurance plan as all federal workers. The one and only difference is that they have access to Capitol Hill physicians and military hospitals, an absolutely necessary consideration given that they work away from home and have irregular schedules for job vital to the nation's operation.
"Pelosi only cares about herself and no one else" is an unsupportable opinion and remarkably dumb. People don't subject themselves to the kinds of denigration that Pelosi, or Obama, or Bush endure because they only care about themselves.
