OUR VIEW: You knew Hege would consider it
And it’s not surprising, either, because Hege still has many supporters in Davidson County who’d like to see him serving as sheriff again. We expect it would be an interesting Republican Party primary between Hege and Sheriff David Grice, who replaced him in 2004.
There are two schools of thought on whether Hege should run: He’s paid his dues for convictions of obstruction of justice, so there’s nothing wrong with him running. There’s also the thought that he’s a convicted felon, and ex-cons shouldn’t be the head of a powerful sheriff’s department.
And then there’s the thought among media types that a Hege candidacy would give them the chance to ask the former sheriff to shed some light on where that missing money from the department’s vice and narcotics unit went.
Hege said he’d make a decision in November on whether to seek the office again.

And who would want a normal SHERIFF ANYWAY ??
What was alleged that Hege did is a drop in the bucket as to what our Former Governor Easley did.
Look what Bill Clinton did. He even took the white house china and silverware when he left office. He was impeached and wouldn't leave.
And the expression of ex-cons is to further downgrade Hege. People are quick to judge others but sometimes need to take a look at themselves. We tend to nit-pick all the wrongs in a person and forget all the good things that he has done. Weigh them on a scale and see which one tips it, then make your decision.
