HIGH POINT – Mr. Solomon L. “Jack” Craven, 87, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the home of his son.
Jack was born in Greensboro, June 28, 1923, a son of Solomon Chester Craven and Daisy Myrtle Whitsell. He was an Army Air Force veteran of W.W.II. Jack retired from Brayton International, enjoyed woodworking and was a “jack of all trades”. He was a member of Full Gospel Miracle Ministries where he enjoyed playing the guitar. He was preceded in death by five siblings.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Gale Johnson and husband Toby of High Point; three sons, David L. Craven and wife Dianne, Eddie M. Craven and Kavin W. Craven and wife Jeannine, all of High Point; four brothers, C. C. Craven and wife Florence and Charlie Craven, both of High Point; Emory Craven of Candor and Gene Craven and wife Sharon of Wallburg; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by Pastor Stanley Savage. Burial with military honors will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m. and at other times the home of Eddie Craven. LEXINGTON – Carol Jean Foster Watson, 79, of Salem Street died January 30, 2011, at Hinkle Hospice House.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paul’s Chapel United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.
Virginia S. Shrawder
JAMESTOWN – Mrs. Virginia Smith Sossaman Shrawder of Jamestown died January 28, 2011.
Mrs. Shrawder was born in Mecklenburg County on November 18, 1917 to Richard Allison and Woodie Bell Smith Sossaman. On August 11, 1943 she married Woodrow James Shrawder, who served as Colonel in the U. S. Army. Together, they traveled in the Philippines, Europe, and the United States. They moved to Jamestown in the early 1970’s. Mrs. Shrawder served as a branch banking manager for many years and later with the High Point Furniture Market. Mrs. Shrawder as a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church where she volunteered for many years in the Thrift Shop of the church. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 27, 1991.
Surviving are her daughter; Cindy Waldo and husband Chuck of Charlotte; one brother, Richard Benjamin Sossaman and wife Doris of Jamestown, and a sister–in-law, Elizabeth H. Sossaman of Memphis, TN. Mrs. Shrawder has two grandchildren: Douglas J. Tidwell and wife Jin of Seoul, South Korea and Cheryl Lyons and husband Mickey of Decatur, Ga. who are expecting the “first great grandchild” in March.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Sechrest Funeral Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue with Mr. Tom Cheney and Reverend Ashby Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Kaola Myers Jarrett
THOMASVILLE – Mrs. Kaola Myers Jarrett, 88, a resident of Overbrook Dr. in Thomasville, NC, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 in the Pine Ridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
A lifelong resident of Davidson County, Kaola was born November 6, 1922 a daughter of the late John Myers and Effie Myers. She graduated from Pilot High School and retired from Kayby Mills. Kaola enjoyed cooking and baking and was of the Methodist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister; Irene Yates. On January 29, 1942 she married L.R. Jarrett, Jr. who survives of the home.
Surviving in addition to her husband is her son; Craig D. Jarrett of Thomasville, a sister; Clyo Long of Midway, NC, a brother; Robert Lee Myers of Thomasville, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011 in the Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Cris Uren officiating.
