Cowgirls, Bison advance in PTC 4A tourney

PTC 4A TOURNAMENT

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford’s Maggie Jermyn and High Point Central’s doubles team of Kristen Biddle and Eva Ellenburg advanced to today’s semifinals of the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference tennis tournament on Tuesday.
Jermyn, seeded fourth, earned a first-round bye, then topped Ragsdale’s Mina Akbari 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 in round two.
Biddle-Ellenburg, seeded fourth, got a first-round bye, then defeated Ragsdale’s Latham Childress-Caroline Womack 6-0, 6-0 in round two.
Other singles semifinalists today are Northwest Guilford’s Madeline Babgy, Ragsdale’s Madison Harmon and Northwest’s Ellie Hogan.
Other doubles semifinalists are top-seeded Joelle Fuchs/Jasmine Fuchs of Northwest, third-seeded Isabella Wong/Lindsey McGuirk of Northwest and second-seeded Maggie Lawrence/Abby DeBerry of Northwest.
Southwest’s Erin Shelton fell in the second round of the singles draw, while the Cowgirls’ duo of Catherine Jobe-Hannah Mills lost in the second round of the doubles draw. Glenn’s Emily Allen-Sam Joyce also lost in the second round of the doubles draw.
Central’s Aly Wilcox and Emily Adams and Glenn’s Mae Lewis and Peyton Walker lost first-round singles matches.
Central’s Rachel Shelton-Meredith Field and Southwest’s Sophia Nagy-Carley Anne Bullman lost first-round doubles matches.
The event concludes today at Southwest Guilford High School.

SALEM 5, WESTCHESTER 4
WINSTON-SALEM – Westchester Country Day School wrapped up TAC tennis play with a 5-4 loss to Salem Academy on Tuesday.
Sophie Lanham and Catherine York posted singles wins for the Wildcats while Lanham/Erica Sawyer and York/Avery Keefe won in doubles.

PAC6 2A TOURNAMENT
HIGH POINT – Wheatmore swept the singles and doubles titles at the PAC6 individual tennis tournament on Tuesday at T.W, Andrews.
Mary Vcellio defeated Abby Henderson for the singles crown. Vecellio topped Tessie Chapman of Providence Grove in the semifinals while Henderson stopped Stephanie Fornter of Wheatmore.
All four players punched their tickets to play in the state regionals.
In doubles, Jordan Myers and Jessica Myers of Wheatmore defeated Hannah Wade and Hannah Snyder of Andrews.

VOLLEYBALL

HP CENTRAL DEF. GLENN
HIGH POINT — Hayden Harris dished 20 assists and recorded six kills as High Point Central rolled past Glenn for a 25-5, 26-24, 25-13 Piedmont Triad 4A Conference win on Tuesday.
Sadie Weston added nine kills for the Bison, while Carmen Dodson served six aces.
Central plays host to Southwest Guilford on Thursday at around 6 p.m.

EAST DAVIDSON DEF. LEXINGTON
LEXINGTON — Taylor McPhatter recorded seven kills and Taylor Moretz notched five as East Davidson downed Lexington 25-10, 25-11, 25-16 on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles (5-13, 4-6 Central Carolina 2A Conference) close their regular season on Thursday at home against West Davidson.

WESTCHESTER DEF. AMERICAN HEBREW
HIGH POINT — Westchester Country Day School beat American Hebrew Academy 25-12, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16 on Tuesday.
Kayla Watson and Morgan Kushner led the Wildcats with seven kills each. Kaitlyn Shapiro had another great serving game for Westchester, which plays at American Hebrew Academy on Friday.

WHEATMORE DEF. T.W. ANDREWS
HIGH POINT — Kelly Davis led a balanced attack with 32 assists, 16 service points and eight aces as Wheatmore topped T.W. Andrews 25-15, 25-7, 25-10 late Tuesday night.
Kathryn Johnson added 13 kills, seven service points and two aces for the Warriors (19-1, 9-0 PAC-6 2A). Georgia Garrison tallied 10 kills and seven service points for WHS, while Allie Grubb had seven kills, five service points and two aces and Davey Albertson had five kills, five blocks and two aces. Emily Brown posted eight service points and three kills for the Warriors. Casey Hawkins finished with four service points, two digs and a kill.
Wheatmore visits Eastern Randolph Thursday night.

TRINITY DEF. PROVIDENCE GROVE
CLIMAX — Casey Davis led a balanced attack with eight kills as Trinity defeated Providence Grove 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16 late Tuesday.
Kaitlyn Green tallied 11 service points and an ace for the Bulldogs (11-7, 5-4 PAC-6 2A). Shay Felder led Trinity in assists and added 10 service points and an ace, while Michaela Watkins had nine service points, eight blocks, six kills and an ace. Noelle Walker tallied six service points and two aces for Trinity, which plays at South Davidson on Wednesday and plays host to T.W. Andrews on Thursday.

NORTH ROWAN DEF. THOMASVILLE
SPENCER — North Rowan topped Thomasville 25-7, 25-19, 25-20 in Central Carolina 2A Conference action late Tuesday.
Shakemia Matthews recorded eight service points with an ace for the Bulldogs (1-9 league), while Christina Coleman tallied seven service points, two aces and a kill. Jashana Thomas finished with six service points, three aces, three blocks and two kills for Thomasville, while Alexus Nelson and Megan Kinley each had seven service points.

HP CHRISTIAN DEF. CALVARY
WINSTON-SALEM — High Point Christian swept host Calvary 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 on Tuesday.
Leaders for the Cougars (12-13) were Sydney Rowan (14 kills, 13 digs), Olivia Owen (seven aces, 13 digs) and Rachel Cox (20 assists).
HPCA won the junior varsity match, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15. HPCA improves to 14-2.
HPCA will host Davidson Day for its Pink Out match on Thursday a 5:45 p.m.

BISHOP DEF. WALKERTOWN
KERNERSVILLE – Bishop McGuinness swept Walkertown 25-8, 25-7, 25-16 late Tuesday.
Leaders for the Villains included Tia Cappuccio (seven digs, five aces), Tori Klier (seven digs), Julia Brown (10 kills, four aces) and Jessica Brandewie (16 assists, four aces, two kills, two digs).
Bishop won the JV match two games to none.

HP CHRISTIAN 4, CALVARY 2
WINSTON-SALEM – Zach Hamilton score two goals and assisted on two more as High Point Christian stopped Calvary 4-2 in a PACIS match on Tuesday.
Stafford Beck and Joe Severs also scored, while Ben Hardee and Mark Kim assisted on Hamilton’s goals. Chantz Sawyers and Damon Jenkins help[ save the victory in goal.
HPCA (5-10, 3-5 PACIS) plays host to Davidson Day on Friday.

SW GUILFORD 2, HP CENTRAL 0
HIGH POINT — Jeremy Cronin tallied a goal and an assist as Southwest Guilford blanked High Point Central 2-0 in Piedmont Triad 4A Conference action late Tuesday.
Trent Mayberry added a goal for the Cowboys (11-3-2, 2-3), while goalkeepers Kyle Shina (five saves) and Strator Pagiavlas (one save) combined for the shutout.
Parker Ford served in goal for the Bison (9-4, 2-3).
Both teams return to action Thursday. Southwest visits Glenn at 7, while Central plays host to East Forsyth at High Point Athletic Complex at 7.

GLENN 2, RAGSDALE 1
JAMESTOWN — Cristian Zavala scored two goals as Glenn edged Ragsdale 2-1 in Piedmont Triad 4A Conference action late Tuesday.
Evander Silva made six saves in goal for the Bobcats, who got an assist from Claude Benson.
For the Tigers, Chris Kerr scored off an assist by Julian Montoya. Daniel Kanakanui recorded seven saves in goal.

EAST SURRY 2, BISHOP 1
KERNERSVILLE — East Surry edged Bishop McGuinness 2-1 in Northwest 1A action late Tuesday.
Will Webster scored for the Villains (5-8-1, 3-3). The Cardinals improved to 11-5-2, 5-0-1.

PACIS 3A AT OAK HOLLOW
HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian Academy’s Cecily Overbey earned medalist honors at 1-over-par 37 and wrapped up PACIS 3A player of the year honors to highlight Tuesday’s match at Oak Hollow.
Forsyth Country Day won Tuesday at 125, followed by Wesleyan at 139 and Greensboro Day at 163.
Also for the Trojans, Erica Hamilton carded 48 and Michaela Hicks 54.
FCD clinched the regular-season PACIS title, followed by WCA and GDS. Hamilton joined Overbey on the all-conference squad.
WCA plays host to Cannon on Tuesday at Oak Hollow at 3:30 p.m.

LEDFORD 2, WESTERN GUILFORD 1 (OVERTIME)
WALLBURG — Vicente Luna scored in the second overtime off an assist by Edgar Salinas to lift Ledford to a 2-1 victory over Western Guilford late Monday.
Ledford’s Jonathan Vasquez scored off an assist by goalie Edgar Deras, who made 13 saves.
Alex Molina, Tyler Dodson and Israel Rodriguez sparked the Panther defense.
Ledford (8-3-6) visits Southern Guilford today.

S. GUILFORD 1, ASHEBORO 1
SUMNER — Oscar Jasso of Southern Guilford scored off a pass from Juan Jarquin as the Storm battled to a 1-1 tie with Asheboro in Mid-Piedmont 3A action on Monday.
Cesar Ruiz grabbd six saves in goal for Southern, which improved to 5-9-4, 2-3-3 MPC and plays host to Ledford today.

VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP DEF. N. DAVIDSON
KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness swept visiting North Davidson 25-23, 25-11, 25-19 on Monday.
Leaders for Villains included Julia Brown in kills with 15, Jessica Brandewie in assists with 21, Delaney Findling and Tia Cuppuccio in aces with three each, and Julie Dorosiewicz in assists with 28.
Bishop won the junior varsity match, 27-25 and 25-18.

WHEATMORE DEF. LEDFORD
TRINITY — Wheatmore swept visiting Ledford 25-13, 25-16, 25-18 in a nonconference match Monday.
Kelly Davis had 34 assists, while Georgia Garrison had 12 kills and six digs, and Kathryn Johnson had 11 kills and seven digs for the Warriors (18-1).
Davey Albertson also had seven kills, while Casey Hawkins had six digs.
