Central overwhelms Andrews in girls soccer
HP CENTRAL 6, T.W. ANDREWS 1
HIGH POINT — Caroline Giles and Susie Griffin each scored two goals for High Point Central in a 6-1 win over T. Wingate Andrews on Monday.
Krystal Conner and Mckenzie MacDonald added a goal each for the Bison (1-1). MacDonald also had two assists while Griffin had one.
Central keeper Mary Bryan Smith was not credited with a save as Andrews had two shots on goal, one a goal by Diamond Lattimore and the other a shot that went off the cross bar.
RAGSDALE 8, TRINITY 0
TRINITY – Lauren Whitaker and Kelly McCain scored two goals each for Ragsdale in an 8-0 win over host Trinity on Monday.
Lauren Merritt, Lindsay Kubrick, Lauren Culler and Emily Pfister also scored for the Tigers (2-0). Merritt, McCain, Annie Scheffer, Erica Oakley and Micki Baggett had assists.
Keller Dixon, Erin Rine and Morgan Klenke combined for three saves. Carly Stout had 11 saves for Trinity in its season opener.
WHEATMORE 8, E. DAVIDSON 4
TRINITY – Lexa Wall fashioned a hat trick and had two assists in helping Wheatmore overwhelm visting East Davidson 8-3 on Monday
Candace Lockhart had two goals and two assists. Maddie Myers had a goal and two assist. Alexis Rowell and Megan Smith also scored goals. Emily Brown had an assist.
Jessica Ferguson scored two goals for the Golden Eagles in their season opener. Chloe Yarbrough and Kali Stinson added a goal each. Stinson and Erin Hemrick had an assist apiece.
BISHOP 3, C. DAVIDSON 3
HIGH POINT – Sam Walsh scored two goals and Chandler Green had one to help Bishop McGuinness fight to a 3-3 tie with Central Davidson on Monday.
Caroline Valitutto, Walsh and Amanda Kabealo had assists for the Villains
E. DAVIDSON 4, S. GUILFORD 1
THOMASVILLE – East Davidson scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a wild pitch and edged Southern Guilford 4-3 on Monday.
East (2-1) led 3-1 before Southern (0-2) forced a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly and an East throwing error. Braxton Shetley picked up the win while Taylor Suggs took the loss.
Southern scored in the first Evan Edwards’ groundout to first pushed across Austin Kellam. Trevor Jones laced a 2-run single in the bottom of the first for the Golden Eagles, who added a run in the third on Tyler Stroup’s RBI single.
BISHOP 16, THOMASVILLE 5
KERNERSVILLE — Thane Jacobsen went 2 for 2, doubled and drove in four runs to help Bishop McGuinness romp over visiting Thomasville 16-5 on Monday.
Stuart Spiers was 2 for 2 with 3RBIs for the Villains. Matt Neidert and Jack O’Halloran also doubled while Tyler Ennis tripled.
Austin Temple, who came on in relief of starting pitcher Ennis in the third, struck out three in 2 2/3 innings and got the win. Bishop trailed 5-3 before scoring nine runs in the bottom of third.
WHEATMORE 7. E. DAVIDSON 3
THOMASVILLE – Wheatmore scored five runs in the seventh and went on to defeat host East Davidson 7-3 on Monday.
The Warriors trailed 3-2 before the rally. Stephanie Fortner put them ahead by lacing a bases-loaded, two-run single. Katie Bailiff then followed with a three-run homer.
Morgan Halo went the distance in picking up the win as she struck out three. She also hit a solo homer. Katie Kennedy doubled twice. Sydney Peel laced an RBI double and went 2 for 3. Jordan Myers also doubled.
LEDFORD 4, W. DAVIDSON 0
TYRO – Megan Everhart pitched a four-hit shutout as Ledford opened the season with a 4-0 win over host West Davidson on Monday.
Jessie Hayworth went 1 for 3 and had two RBIS for the Panthers. Destiny Deberry was 1 for 4 with one RBI.
Regan Bray was 2 for 3 and Ashley Best was 1 for 3.
TRINITY 15, RAGSDALE 0 (4)
TRINITY — Noelle Butler struck out 12 in a one-hitter and went 2 for 4 with four RBIs as Trinity topped Ragsdale 15-0 in four innings this weekend.
Susan Yates finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs, while Johna Mizzi was 3 for 4 with a triple and RBI. Bailey Andrews was 3 for 3 with a double and Macy Hebert was 2 for 2 with two RBIs for Trinity.
TRINITY 9, PROVIDENCE GROVE 0
David Ryu led a string of singles winners as Trinity swept Providence Grove 9-0 on Monday.
Chase Pruitt, Hunter Dean, Josh Flenniken, Reid Butler and David Gonzales also won in singles. Doubles winners were Pruitt and Dean, Ryu and Butler and Gonzales and Flenniken.
NW GUILFORD 9, SW GUILFORD 0
HIGH POINT — Northwest Guilford blanked Southwest Guilford 9-0 on Monday in a Piedmont Triad 4A match.
LEDFORD 8, E. DAVIDSON 1
WALLBURG — Ledford won five of six singles matches and swept doubles in beating visiting East Davidson 8-1 in a nonconference match Monday.
Rick Ydrovo, Thomas Freeman, Jackson Somers, Landon McGinn and Matt Hartzell won in singles for the Panthers (2-1). Ydrovo-Freeman, Somers-McGinn and Hartzell-Andy Buchanan won in doubles.
Brett Fuller won for the Golden Eagles.
N. FORSYTH 9. T. W. ANDREWS 0
WINSTON-SALEM – North Forsyth swept visiting T.W. Andrews 9-0 on Monday.
The Red Raiders fall to 0-3 and seek their first victory when North Forsyth visits in a rematch on Wednesday.
AT JAMESTOWN PARK
JAMESTOWN - Southwest Guilford finished with a 160 total on the front nine at Jamestown Park and posted an 11-shot victory over Northern Guilford.
Ryan Hardy, Drew Adams and Zach Lance of Southwest each shot a 3-over-par 39 and tied for medalists honors.
Sean Hardy and Devin Lanier were next for the Cowboys with 43s.
John Derrick led Northern with a 40.
AT BLAIR PARK
HIGH POINT — Justin Franklin shot a 2-under 35 to help lead High Point Central to a 156-167 win against visiting Asheboro in a nonconference match Monday.
Harrison Frye also had a 38 while Will Kemp had a 41 and Ryan Eskew had a 42 for the Bison. Alex Pugh and Jordan Hardwick each shot 41 to lead the Blue Comets.
