Cowgirls race past Ragsdale in PTC semis
Southwest Guilford’s girls had little trouble with Ragsdale on Thursday and advanced to the Piedmont Triad 4A championship game with a 62-28 victory on Wednesday.
Southwest will face Northwest Guilford today at 6 p.m. at Southwest. Northwest advanced by holding off Glenn, 47-44.
Brandi Burrell scored 18 to lead the Vikings (14-11). Dominique Claytor tallied a game-high 23 for Glenn (13-12).
NCISAA 3A BOYS
WESLEYAN BOYS 48, PROVIDENCE DAY 33
CHARLOTTE – Top-seed Wesleyan tripped Providence Day 48-33 in the quarterfinals of the NCISAA 3A boys state tournament on Thursday.
Wesleyan (21-5) advances to semifinal game today at 5:30 against High Point Christian.
HP CHRISTIAN BOYS 77, PROVIDENCE DAY 63
CHARLOTTE — Fourth-seeded High Point Christian pulled away to beat fifth-seeded Providence Day 77-63 in the quarterfinals of the NCISAA 3A state playoffs Thursday at Charlotte Latin.
Jackson Kent scored 21 points while Joey McLean had 15 and Mike Kobani had 13 to lead the Cougars (26-6), who led 37-30 at halftime. Jordan Watkins scored 31 while Bryon Fields added 18 for Providence Day (25-7).
HPCA will face crosstown and conference rival Wesleyan today at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals at Charlotte Latin. The winner will face either No. 2 Christ School or No. 3 Greensboro Day in the final Saturday at Providence Day at 8 p.m.
PAC-6 2A GIRLS
ANDREWS 69, RANDLEMAN 39
WINSTON-SALEM – The T.Wingate Andrews girls cruised to a 69-39 victory over Randleman in the semifinals of the PAC-6 tournament on Thursday.
The Red Raiders face host Atkins in tonight’s final.
ATKINS 49, TRINITY 32
WINSTON-SALEM – Atkins dominated practically the entire way and defeated Trinity 49-32 in the semifinals of the PAC6 girls tournament on Thursday at Atkins.
The season is not over for the Bulldogs (11-14), who will begin NCHSAA 2A sectional play on Monday.
Jordan Parker led Trinity with 15 points. Sage Earnhardt had eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Angelica Conroy added six points and four rebounds while Casey Davis pulled down six rebounds,
E. DAVIDSON 47, LEXINGTON 40
LEXINGTON – Bayley Plummer scored 12 of her game-high 22 points in the third quarter as East Davidson’s girls rallied past Lexington 47-40 in a Central Carolina 2A Conference tournament semifinal game.
The Golden Eagles will play host Lexington High in the championship game tonight.
Plummer also had 19 rebounds while Madi Hallman added 10 points. McKenzie Burkhart led Central with nine points.
FIRST ASSEMBLY BOYS 69, WESTCHESTER 55
CHARLOTTE – Third-seeded First Assembly rallied for a 69-55 victory over sixth-seed Westchester 69-55 in the quarterfinals of the NCISAA 2A boys tournament Thursday at Charlotte Country Day.
Down six after one quarter, First Assembly closed to within one at the half on a buzzer-beater from 75 feet and then used offensive rebounding and better free-throw shooting to take control.
Josh Burton scored 21 to lead Westchester, which finishes 18-11. Sadeeq Bello added 17 followed by Justice Cuthbertson with nine, David Ayodele with six and Kaymon Mitchell with two.
