Balanced Tiger boys trip Bison
The High Point Central boys basketball team was really looking for a win Friday night to snap its losing streak heading into the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference tournament. Instead, a hot-shooting Ragsdale team got in its way.
Four Tigers reached double-figure scoring as Ragsdale shot 23 of 52 from the field in handing Central its fourth consecutive loss and its seventh in its last eight games, netting a 75-64 victory to close the regular season.
Daniel Kanakanui led all scorers for the Tigers with 19 points, 16 coming in the first half. Kanakanui nailed three of his team’s seven 3-pointers.
“We did a good job executing inside and out. We made the easy baskets and were pretty consistent,” Ragsdale head coach Craig Shoemaker said. His team finished the regular season at an even .500 (12-12, 6-6 PTC) with a two-game winning streak going into next week’s conference tournament.
Ragsdale used a 13-3 run in the second quarter to build a strong lead, keeping Central at bay in the second half. Jarratt Holland and Joseph Bryant pushed the Tigers to its second victory over Central this season, each scoring 11 points.
“Every time we had a chance to get back in it, they hit shots and we couldn’t,” Central head coach Patrick Battle said. “I think we played hard. If we can start executing some, I think we’ll be alright.”
Juwan Foggie led the Bison with 19 points and eight rebounds, followed by Michal Seals with 11.
The teams could meet in the PTC tournament, beginning Monday.
