Yang captures third straight Colonial Ladies crown
Sook Hee Yang posted a two-stroke victory to secure her third straight Colonial Ladies Invitational crown on Sunday in Thomasville.
Yang carded rounds of 75 and 73 to finish at 2-over 148 i the 47th annual event. Kim Clarke shot 74-76—150 and placed second in a scorecard playoff with Lily Crane (75-75). Sydney Crane took fourth at 77-75—152 with Jackie King fifth at 77-76—153.
In first flight, Robin Gallagher shot 78-76—154 and defeated Kathy DeVore (77-77) in a scorecard playoff for the win. Carole Sandifer placed third at 86-77—163, followed by Marianne Hedgpeth (83-83), who topped Tess Kirkman (83-83) in a scorecard playoff for fourth.
Second flight saw Carmen Andia win at 87-80—167, followed by Cathy Wilson at 83-87—170, Beth Smith at 87-84—171, Beverly Cassels at 87-85—172 and Delores Hammer at 86-87—173.
Eunice Macy claimed third flight at 96-83—179, followed by Meredith Andrews at 91-91—181 and Gaye Driggers at 92-91—183. Patsy Dellinger carded 97-88—185 and topped Shelia Baranello (92-93) in a scorecard playoff for fourth.
In fourth flight, Chris Remines won at 82-85—167, followed by Maggie Collins at 89-91—180, Martha Hollady at 92-89—181, Gay Collins at 88-96—184 and Cathy Crump at 92-93—185.
Ann Lake took fifth flight at 93-102—195, followed by Sue Haszler at 103-102—205, Paula Gentile at 104-102—206, Barbara Mikels at 106-101—207 and Ann Rippy at 100-107—207.
COALSIN TAKES CARDINAL AM TITLE
GREENSBORO — Dobson’s Taylor Coalson led wire-to-wire to secure the prestigious Cardinal Amateur title on Sunday at Sedgefield Country Club.
Coalson finished at 4-under 206 after rounds of 65, 71 and 70 over the par-70, 7,002-yard layout. Cary’s Eric Brady placed second at 73-71-67—211.
High Point’s Davis Womble capped a fine tournament in a tie for sixth at 214 after rounds of 73, 70 and 71. Archdale’s Tanner Gross tied for 11th at 72-69-74—215. Greensboro’s Stanhope Johnson tied for 38th at 80-74-71—225. Tanner Owen of High Point tied for 62nd at 78-78-76—232.
HITOMS EXHIBITION CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER
THOMASVILLE — The HiToms exhibition game against Kernersville Sunday night at Finch Field was rained out. The game will not be made up.
The HiToms return to CPL action against Forest City on Wednesday at 7 at Finch Field.
COPPERHEADS STOP HITOMS, 5-3
ASHEBORO — Austin Bossart homered, Brett Schreiber gave the Copperheads six solid innings on the mound and the HiToms left eight on base in a 5-3 loss at McCrary Park late Saturday.
Dykota Spiess hit a two-run triple for the HiToms, who also got a Sam Foy sacrifice fly.
Asheboro improved to 25-13, 7-5 in the second half. The HiToms fell to 18-23, 5-8.
MYERS, BOHN WIN AT BOWMAN GRAY
WINSTON-SALEM — Burt Myers and Danny Bohn took 25-lap wins in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night.
Lee Jeffreys finished second in the first race with John Smith of Mount Airy third. Tim Brown took second in the nightcap with Tony Black third.
In the Sportsman Series, Bubba Gale and Zack Clifton posted wins in the 20-lappers. Billy Gregg won in the Street Stock Series, while A.J. Sanders and his Stephen Sanders took 15-lap Stadium Stock victories.
