Wesleyan, HPCA teams learn playoff foes

Second-seeded Wesleyan Christian Academy begins its quest for a third straight NCISAA 3A soccer title with a Tuesday home playoff game against seventh-seeded Cannon.

The start time for the match between the Trojans (17-3-2) and Cougars (11-4-3) has not been announced.
The NCISAA 3A volleyball playoffs open with first-round matches on Tuesday. The games include ninth-seeded Wesleyan (21-11) at eighth-seeded Providence Day (17-15) and 10th-seeded High Point Christian Academy (13-14) at seventh-seeded Charlotte Christian (17-10).

WSSU RAMS ROLL PAST FALCONS, 35-17
RALEIGH — Winston-Salem State University started sluggish but finished strong, rolling up five rushing touchdowns in a 35-17 romp past St. Augustine’s on Saturday.
The sixteenth-ranked Rams move to 6-1 overall, 4-0 in the CIAA and 2-0 in the Southern Division. St. Augustine’s falls to 3-4 overall, 2-2 in the CIAA and 1-1 in the Southern Division.
WSSU’s Maurice Lewis rushed for 90 yards and three touchdown on 15 carries.

GREENSBORO OUTLASTS N.C. WESLEYAN, 44-42
ROCKY MOUNT — Greensboro College snapped a three game losing streak with a 44-42 win at N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday.
The Pride (2-5, 1-3 USA South) defeated the Battling Bishops (1-6, 1-3) for the first time in school history. Greensboro’s Ryan Throndset passed for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Dexter Russell finished with 13 catches for 126 yards and three TDs.

WESTCHESTER TENNIS FALLS TO GASTON DAY
GASTONIA — Fifth-seeded Gaston Day School topped 12th-seeded Westchester Country Day School this weekend to advance to the NCISAA 2A quarterfinals.
The Spartans (10-2) advance to face fourth-seeded Arendell-Parrott Academy (12-3) on Tuesday. The Wildcats finish the season 6-9.
