Post 87 advances
The Post 87 Junior HiToms completed the three-game sweep of its opening round American Legion best-of-five playoff series with authority late Wednesday night.
Knocking out 19 hits, Post 87 rolled to a 18-3 victory over Burlington Post 63 at Graham Middle School. The game was stopped after seven innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
The Junior HiToms (23-3) advance to face Kernersville Post 36 in a second-round series that begins Monday. The location is to be determined.
Zach McLean hit two home runs and Cesar Trejo belted one to help lead the Post 87 rout. They also had a double each and drove in four runs as Trejo went 4 for 5 with three runs scored and McLean was 3 for 5 with four runs scored.
Colin Rosenbaum was 3 for 5, scored two runs and had one RBI. Ben Fischer was 3 for 4, doubled twice, second two runs and drove in three.
Starting pitcher Ryan Kahny got the win, giving up two runs and five hits while striking out four in five innings. Taylor Sugg tossed the last two innings, allowing two hits and a run with two strike outs.
