Central, Trinity, Ledford post tennis sweeps

Sam Utley led a string of singles winners as High Point Central swept host Parkland 9-0 in Piedmont Triad 4A action Monday.

Tripp Smith, Alex Hill, Mack Earnhardt, Trey Sedberry and Alex Zito were the other singles winners for the Bison. Smith/Hill, Earnhardt/Bobby Little and Sedberry/Barcey Godwin won in doubles.

Central (13-2, 7-2 PTC) goes to Glenn on Wednesday.

 

TRINITY 9, T.W. ANDREWS 0

HIGH POINT — Trinity swept T.W. Andrews 9-0 in a PAC6 match Monday.

David Ryu, Chase Pruitt, Hunter Dean, Josh Flenniken, Reid Butler and David Gonzales won in singles for the Bulldogs. Pruitt/Dean, Ryu/Butler and Gonzales/Flenniken were the doubles winner.

 

LEDFORD 9, NE GUILFORD 0

WALLBURG — Ledford lost a total of two games in a 9-0 sweep of visiting Mid-Piedmont 3A foe Northeast Guilford on Monday.

Rick Ydrovo, Thomas Freeman, Jackson Somers, Landon McGinn, Erik McSwain and Will Harrington won in singles for the Panthers (11-3, 6-1 MPC). McSwian/Harrington, Andy Buchanan/Cameron Maxwell and Alan Bodea/Matt Hartzell won in doubles.

Ledford travels to Southwestern Randolph on Wednesday.

 

SW GUILFORD 7, GLENN 2

WINSTON-SALEM — Southwest Guilford won all but one singles match and one doubles match in a 7-2 Piedmont Triad 4A victory over host Glenn on Monday.

Austin Lynk, Danny Gillespie, Steven Michel, Brian Jobe and Jacob Arett were singles winners for the Cowboys (8-5, 6-3 PTC). Lynk/Gillespie and Sai Hari/Alex Garvic were Southwest’s doubles winners.

Brent Ocegueda was Glenn’s singles winner and then teamed with Jimmy Darrache for a win in doubles.

Glenn drops to 3-8, 1-7.

 

N. FORSYTH 5, S. GUILFORD 4

WINSTON-SALEM — North Forsyth won all three doubles matches to hand visiting Southern Guilford a 5-4 loss Monday in a Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference match.

Anthony Scala, Jason Gray, Dennzel Elcock and Daniel Gray won in singles for the Storm (4-7, 3-5 MPC), who play again Wednesday at Asheboro.

 

SOCCER

WHEATMORE 2, TRINITY 0

TRINITY – Maddy Myers and Candice Lockhart scored for Wheatmore in a 2-0 PAC-6 2A victory over visiting Trinity on Monday.

Lexa Wall and Lockhart dished assists. Cora Weeks grabbed six saves in goal for the Warriors, who improved to 8-2-2 and 2-0 in the league.

Wheatmore plays host to Randleman on Wednesday.

 

SALEM ACADEMY 3, WESTCHESTER 0

WINSTON-SALEM – Salem Academy throttled Westchester Country Day’s offense and posted a 3-0 victory  Monday.

Maddie Dyson did grab 10 saves for the Wildcats in goal as they dropped to 1-8-1.

 

LEDFORD 1, SW RANDOLPH 0 (OT)

FARMER — Crystal Llodrat scored in the first minute of the opening 10-minute overtime period as Ledford beat host Southwestern Randolph 1-0 in a Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference match.

Tori Anderson was credited with the assist while Sarah Baker finished with 10 saves in goal for the Panthers (5-5, 2-1 MPC), who play again Wednesday at home against North Forsyth.

 

BISHOP 9, N. SURRY 0

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness scored seven goals in the first half en route to a 9-0 win against visiting North Surry in a Northwest 1A/2A Conference match Monday.

Samantha Walsh scored two goals while Caroline Valitutto had one goal and two assists to lead the Villains (7-2-2, 7-1 NWC). Chandler Green, Katie Wright, Jenna Basel, Lauren Andrysick, Kattie Vest and Gabby Dimoff also scored goals.

Kally Saffer had two assists while Green, Vest, Erin O’Rourke, Gina Koesters and Erica Justice each had one. Kim Molen made two saves in goal for Bishop, which outshot North Surry 21-2 for the game.

The Villains play again today at home against Surry Central at 6 p.m.

 

GOLF

AT ASHEBORO MUNICIPAL

ASHEBORO – Asheboro made the most of a home-course advantage at that city’s municipal course on Monday.

The Blue Comets combined for a 152 total and a 15-shot win over Ledford in a Mid-Piedmont 3A match.

Southwestern Randolph was next at 189, followed by Northeast Guilford (189), North Forsyth (210) and Southern Guilford (215).

Jordan Hardwick of Asheboro took medalist honors with a 36, a stroke ahead of his teammate Alex Pugh.

Trey Ragan led Ledford with a 41. The other counting scores for the Panthers came from a trio of 42s produced by Anthony Bradley, Ryan McClellan and Parker Hughes.

 

AT HOLLY RIDGE

ARCHDALE — Trinity, Wheatmore and T.W. Andrews went 2, 3 and 4 in the third PAC-6 2A match of the season at Holly Ridge.

Bailey Bryant shot a 41, followed by Jordan Smith (45), Chase Faircloth (46) and Brock McCall (57) to lead Trinity to a 189 total.

Collin Miller, the medalist, shot a 39 trailed by Jacob McNeil (50), Billy Dunlap (54) and Marvin Taylor (55) for Wheatmore, which finished with a 198.

Chris Jarrett shot a 43, followed by Chris Gay (50), Sydney Logan (54) and James Jarrett (55) to lead Andrews to a 202 total.

Randleman won with a 175 team total, as Atkins was fifth with a 213 and Carver was sixth with a 281.

 

AT PILOT KNOB PARK

PILOT MOUNTAIN — Tanner Owen shot a 2-under 33 to earn medalist and help lead Bishop McGuinness to a five-shot victory in Monday’s Northwest 1A/2A Conference match.

The Villains totaled a 151, followed by East Surry (156), West Stokes (167), North Surry (170), Surry Central (182), Mount Airy (185), South Stokes (188) and North Stokes (194).

Mason Orr and Kevin Sowinski each fired a 49 while Jonathon Davis added a 40 for Bishop.

 

SOFTBALL

S. GUILFORD 8, E. DAVIDSON 2

SUMNER – Winning pitcher Robin Stoner struck out nine as Southern Guilford topped visiting East Davidson in nonconference action Monday.

Taylor Creed was 4 for 4 with a double for Storm while Stoner and Tori Weems both went 3 for 4.

Southern (5-7) plays host to Northeast Guilford in Mid-Piedmont 3A action today.
