Ledford outlasts East Davidson in four sets

Ledford jumped ahead early and held off county rival East Davidson for a 25-11, 25-13, 19-25, 25-12 win Monday at Ledford.

Taylor Moretz had three kills and six blocks for the Golden Eagles (1-2) while Taylor McPhatter added three kills and four blocks.

East plays again Wednesday at home against North Davidson. 

 

RAGSDALE DEF. TRINITY

JAMESTOWN – Ragsdale swept visiting nonconference foe Trinity 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 on Monday.

Leaders for the Tigers include Tessa Platek (eight kills, four aces). Bojo Jada (six kills, five blocks) and Mikayla Pettyjohn (six kills, three blocks).

Ragsdale (4-0) goes to Northeast Guilford on Tuesday. Trinity (1-2) hosts Thomasville on Thursday.

 

WHEATMORE DEF. ASHEBORO

ASHEBORO — Wheatmore swept host Asheboro 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 on Monday.

Kathryn Johnson had 16 kills and nine digs, Kelly Davis had 34 assists, Georgia Garrison had 13 kills and five digs, and Allie Grubb and Davey Albertson combined for nine kills and seven blocks to lead the Warriors (3-0).

Wheatmore plays again Wednesday at West Davidson.

 

SW GUILFORD DEF. E. GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford topped visiting Eastern Guilford 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 on Monday.

Jordan Richmond and Bri Burgins led the way for the Cowgirls.

Southwest plays again Tuesday at home against Grimsley.

 

BISHOP DEF. CALVARY

WINSTON-SALEM — Bishop McGuinness rolled past Calvary Baptist 25-15, 25-19, 25-12 on Monday.

Julia Brown had 10 kills for the Villains (3-0), while Jessica Brandewie added six kills and 15 assists, Julie Dorosiewicz had five kills, and Olivia Bunemann had 14 assists. Julia Kane also had five aces, while Tia Cappuccio had four.

Bishop plays again Tuesday at Mount Airy.

 

TENNIS

WHEATMORE 8, W. DAVIDSON 1

TRINITY – Wheatmore won all but one singles match and topped visiting West Davidson 8-1 on Monday.

Jordan Myers, Jessica Myers, Mary Vecellio, Olivia Doane and Somer Stout won the singles matches for the Warriors, who improved to 3-0.

Stephanie Fortner and Vecellio, the Myers sisters, and Stout and Doane teamed for the doubles wins.

Wheatmore plays host to East Davidson on Wednesday.

 

LEDFORD 9, S. GUILFORD 0

WALLBURG — Ledford swept visiting Southern Guilford 9-0 on Monday.

The Storm (0-2) will play again Wednesday at home against Central Davidson.

 

RAGSDALE 8, ANDREWS 1

HIGH POINT — Ragsdale won all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 win against host T.W. Andrews on Monday.

Mina Akbari, Madison Harmon, Latham Childress, Sarah Fogelman, Thalia Allen and Parker Coreu won in singles for the Tigers, who also won Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

Hannah Snyder and Hannah Wade won for the Red Raiders (0-2) in doubles. 

Andrews plays again Wednesday at High Point Central.

 

SE GUILFORD 6, SW GUILFORD 3

GREENSBORO — After splitting singles, Southeast Guilford won all three doubles matches to defeat visiting Southwest Guilford 6-3 on Monday.

Maggie Jermyn, Carley Bullman and Srijana Chhetri won for the Cowgirls (1-2) in singles.

Southwest next plays Tuesday at home against High Point Christian.

 

SOCCER

HP CENTRAL 2, S. GUILFORD 0

SUMNER — Carlos Murillo scored a goal and dished an assist in helping lead High Point Central past host Southern Guilford 2-0 in its season-opener Monday.

Campbell Locke also scored for the Bison (1-0), who led 1-0 at halftime, while Shep Byles had an assist. Stephen Smith made eight saves in goal.

Central plays again Wednesday at home against Asheboro.

 

WESLEYAN 5, CALVARY BAPTIST 0

WINSTON-SALEM – Kirby Robbins, William Guffey, Connor Case, Matt Owens and Andrew Moebius each score a goal for Wesleyan Christian in a 5-0 victory over host Calvary Baptist on Monday.

Robbins, Creighton Dawsay, Daniel Vogler and Drew Mostoller had a save each. Connor Bell helped secure  the shutout in goal.

 

SW GUILFORD 1, PAGE 1

GREENSBORO — Jeremy Cronin scored the lone goal for Southwest Guilford in a 1-1 tie Monday against host Page.

Cronin scored an unassisted goal with about 15 minutes in the game, after the Pirates scored in the first half to gain the advantage.

Kyle Shina made five saves in goal for the Cowboys (1-0-1), who play again Wednesday at home against West Forsyth.

 

S. STOKES 2, BISHOP 1

KERNERSVILLE – Bishop McGuinness fell to visiting South Stokes 2-1 on Monday evening.

Matia Crespo scored off an assist by Logan Smith in the 42nd minute for the Villains before South Stokes scored twice in the second half. 

Bishop plays again Thursday at home against Elkin.

 

TRINITY 2, SW RANDOLPH 1

TRINITY — Daniel Newcomer scored twice in helping lift Trinity past visiting Southwestern Randolph 2-1 on Monday.

Hunter Dean and Jonathan Adkins each had an assist for the Bulldogs, who play again Thursday at Ragsdale.

 

W. GUILFORD 2, RAGSDALE 1

GREENSBORO — Ragsdale lost its opener, falling 2-1 against host Western Guilford on Monday.

Lucas Hicks scored the lone goal unassisted for the Tigers (0-1). Daniel Kanakanui made eight saves in goal.

Ragsdale plays again Tuesday at home against Grimsley.
