Myers earns sixth Bowman Gray championship

The number six proved lucky for Burt Myers on Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium.

Myers wrapped up his sixth championship with a sixth-place finish in the Modified Series Carolina Farm Credit 150.
Tim Brown won the main event, followed by Lee Jeffreys, Jonathan Brown, Jason Myers and John Smith.
For Burt Myers, this marks three Stadium titles in the last four years.

CARMICHAEL CAPTURES SENIOR CLUB CROWN AT WILLOW CREEK
HIGH POINT — Jim Carmichael posted a seven-stroke victory in the High Point Country Club Senior Club Championship that ended Sunday at Willow Creek.
Carmichael carded rounds of 68 and 75 to finish at 1-under 143. Mike Bivins (74-76) and Kim Mansfield (76-74) shared second at 150.
In Flight 2, Bugsy Brown prevailed at 80-75— 155, followed by Matt Weis at 82-76­—158 and Orrin Magill at 86-82—168. In Flight 3, Duane Edwards triumphed at 92-86—178. Mark Ayer placed second at 93-89—182 with Mike Torrence third at 91-95—186.

BARNES, YANG EARN COLONIAL CLUB TITLES
THOMASVILLE — H.E. Barnes captured his seventh straight Colonial Country Club men’s club title on Sunday, while Sook Hee Yang won her second women’s club championship.
Barnes finished at 4-under 138 after rounds of 68 and 70. Terry Cromer took second at 77-74—151, with Bryan Fary (77-77) and Wilson Womble (81-73) tied for third at 154.
Yang won women’s championship flight at 80-75—155, 5-over. Greta Stookey (81-83) and Tess Kirkman (83-81) shared second at 164.
In men’s flight 1, Jim Armentrout won at 82-77—159, two ahead of Randall Cromer (79-82). Collins Fulcher (82-80) and Kevin Brown (81-81) shared third at 162.
Stephen Williams won men’s flight 2 on the first playoff hole, carding 81-77—158. Terry Richardson placed second at 83-75. Adam Perryman notched third at 79-83—162.
In men’s flight 3, Scotty Hill won at 81-78—159, followed by Chuck Wilfong at 83-80—163 and Joe Keveryn at 87-77—164.
Dee Dillon won women’s flight 3 at 96-91—187.

GRIMSLEY DOWNS RAGSDALE, 20-7
GREENSBORO — Grimsley downed Ragsdale 20-7 late Saturday in the season-opening football game for both teams.
The game was postponed from Friday due to construction at Jamieson Stadium. Ragsdale looks to even its record against visiting Dudley on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

HPU MEN’S SOCCER NETS EXHIBITION WIN
BOONE — The High Point University men’s soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over Appalachian State in exhibition action on Saturday night. Sophomore Austin Yearwood and freshman Chris Ramsell each found the back for the Panthers.
Freshman Ryan Massey started in goal for HPU and made four saves. The Panthers officially kick off the 2013 season at the VCU Rams Classic in Richmond, Va. High Point will play Old Dominion on Friday at 4:30 p.m., then face UAB on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
