Andrews’ girls top Trinity, 50-23
Imani Watkins led all scorers with 13 points to spark the T.W Andrews girls basketball team to a 50-23 PAC-6 conference victory Wednesday night over Trinity.
The Red Raiders shot 18 of 41 from the field while holding their opponent to just nine field goals to pick up their 15th victory of the season.
“We picked up the defensive pressure on them and it really started to create some opportunities,” head coach John Shearin said.
Only leading by two points after the first quarter, Andrews used a full-court press to cause 22 turnovers and outscored the Bulldogs 16-3 in the second quarter to take a commanding lead. The Red Raiders only allowed four field goals in the second half.
Sixteen games into the season, Andrews (15-1, 3-0 PAC-6) has only one loss. But Shearin is sure to stay true to the reasons his team has gotten to this point, taking every game one at a time.
“We played well tonight, but we are still focusing on getting better every day in all aspects of the game.” Shearin said.
Trinity slips to 6-9, 2-1.
