Ledford girls open tourney with win

NEWBRIDGE CHRISTMAS CLASSIC

LEDFORD GIRLS 56, NORTH DAVIDSON 46
WALLBURG – Emmalee Thomas poured in 21 points as Ledford’s girls turned back North Davidson 56-46 in the first round of the Newbridge Christmas Classic hosted by Ledford on Wednesday.
Courtney Callicutt added eight points for the Panthers, who advance to tonight’s 7 o’clock semifinal against South Davidson. Leigh Ann Midkiff scored seven for Ledford.
Alayasia Lindsay led the Black Knights with 12 points. North plays Central Davidson in a consolation bracket game today at 1.

SOUTH DAVIDSON GIRLS 53, CENTRAL DAVIDSON GIRLS 49
WALLBURG – Brooke Strother tallied 13 points to lead South Davidson’s girls to a 53-49 win over Central Davidson in the first round of the Newbridge Christmas Classic hosted by Ledford on Wednesday.
Madison sigmon added 12 points for the Wildcats, who play the host Panthers at 7 tonight in the semifinals. Larson Sigmon scored 11.
For Central, Jordan Chavis scored 13 and Chandler Young added 11. The Spartans play North in a consolation bracket game today at 1.

SE GUILFORD GIRLS 58, LEXINGTON 35
WALLBURG – Kara Shutt torched the nets for 29 points as Southeast Guilford’s girls downed Lexington 58-35 in the first round of the Newbridge Christmas Classic hosted by Ledford on Wednesday.
Kenya Hailey added 11 pints for the Falcons. Kayla Veshaw had 10.
Jasmine Carter paced the Yellow Jackets with 15 points. Charity Wall added 10.

EAST DAVIDSON GIRLS 52, WEST DAVIDSON 26
WALLBURG – Lori Morgan stuck for 14 points and Madison Hallman added 12 as East Davidson’s girls topped West Davidson 52-26 in the first round of the Newbridge Christmas Classic hosted by Ledford on Wednesday.
Jennifer Welborn had eight points for East, which advances to today’s 4 p.m. semifinal against Southeast Guilford.
Callie Herman led West with 11 points.

TIMCO INVITATIONAL

RAGSDALE BOYS 63, NW GUILFORD 58
GREENSBORO – Daniel Kanakanui pumped in 14 points to lead Ragsdale’s boys to a 63-58 win over Northwest Guilford in the first round of the Timco Invitational on Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center.
James Stepp and Joseph Bryant added 13 points each for the Tigers, who advance to today’s 6:30 p.m. semifinal against top-seeded Greensboro Day School, which crushed Grimsley 74-38.
Colson Everett led the Vikings with 21 points.

NW GUILFORD GIRLS 43, RAGSDALE 30
GREENSBORO – Erin Staunton scored 13 points to lead Northwest Guilford’s girls to a 43-30 win over Ragsdale in the first round of the Timco Invitational at the Greensboro Coliseum on Wednesday night.
Brandi Burrell added 12 points for the Vikings (3-8).
Godwin Dooley and Mikayla Pettyjohn led Ragsdale (3-8) with seven points each.
NW Guilford advances to play Page today at 3 p.m. in the semifinals. Ragsdale plays NE Guilford today at 4 p.m. in the consolations.
