Leach, Cowboys bag win over Bobcats
Welcome to the Terrell Leach show.
The Southwest Guilford Cowboys defeated the Glenn Bobcats 82-67 on Tuesday night.
Leach led all scorers with 38 points — 21 which came in the second half. For the game, Leach, who scored 40 on Friday at Ragsdale, had more points than the entire Glenn team scored in the second half.
The win kept Southwest Guilford undefeated at 19-0 overall and 8-0 in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference. The loss dropped Glenn to 7-13 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
After going into the locker room with a 12-point lead at halftime, the Cowboys took the Bobcats out of the game in the third quarter, outscoring them 17-8 to take a 21 point lead. Glenn got no closer than 13 for the rest of the game.
Glenn actually did better from the field for the game, shooting 41-percent as opposed to Southwest’s 38-percent. The Cowboys, however, were able to put together a 56-percent night from behind the arc to help seal the deal.
Leach scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Cowboys on their way to a victory.
Coach Guy Shavers saw this game as a little sloppy on both sides.
“The game never really got into a flow,” Shavers said. “But we got them to turn the ball over early and they had trouble figuring out the zone and that helped us.”
Southwest had a comfortable 43-31 lead going into the half.
Glenn led 13-12 late in the first half, but Southwest would put together a 14-2 run that extended into the second half to take a nine-point lead.
Southwest Guilford will play again Wednesday against High Point Central. Glenn will also face High Point Central next, but not until Friday.
