Gilchrist’s team posts Spring Fling win at Willow Creek

The Ladies Golf Association held its annual Spring Fling tournament at Willow Creek.  

This tournament had three different formats where the team played the first sox holes in captain’s choice, the next six holes in best ball and the final six holes in alternate shot. The tournament finished in a tie and the tie was decided with the score of the team in the alternate shot format.

The Black Team of Gina Gilchrist, Helen Runyan and Jody Carter shot 67 for the 18 holes and won the event. Finishing second was the Navy Team of Tucker Crawford, Martha Webster and Sally Rutherford (they also shot 67). In third was the Khaki Team of Donna Moose, Mary Crawford and Ann Weiland as they shot 69. In the alternate shot format, the Black team shot 24 and the Navy team had 27.



KERNERSVILLE — The team of Bobby Rogers, Butch Hodge, David Goodson and David Kline prevailed in the weekly High Point Seniors Golf Association tournament on Wednesday at Maple Leaf Golf Course.

They had 12 points in a four-man-team, total-points format.

Stan Spangle Jr., Gordon Thacker, Lowell Poole and Walt Weber finished second with 11 points. Larry Burns, Ed Anthony, Ray Stanley and A.J. Putnam wound up thiordd with seven points.

Tom Gray made an eagle on No. 15.

Next week’s tournament will be at Holly Ridge in Archdale.



HIGH POINT — Chong Galloway was the winner in the Oak Hollow Ladeis Golf Association playday on Tuesday.

She carded a 51 in a full-handicap, throw-out-the-par-5s format. Dot Bylerly and Maria Helgeson tied for second at 57.

Sook Hee Yang fired a 78 to take low gross honors. Galloway as low net with a 64. Hee Yang had the fewest putts with 28.

Hee Yang made two birdies while Kum Soo Lee and Willie Combs each had one. Betty Neely holed a chip shot on No. 7.
